DescriptionThe whole story▼
Raceblock trades the Inkrider's broken ink pattern for solid colour fields — black, blue and anthracite laid out in clean, hard-edged blocks rather than a printed texture, finished in gloss. It reads as a graphic rather than a livery: no rider's name attached, just a shape designed to sit well on the Skwal Cup's own aerodynamic profile.
Track heritage, road use
Shark didn't design this spoiler for the Skwal Cup in isolation — it's a shape pulled down from the brand's competition helmets, where aerodynamic stability at very high speed is a safety requirement rather than a nice-to-have. Scaled and tuned for road use through computational fluid-dynamics simulation and confirmed in a wind tunnel, the same rear spoiler now does its job at motorway speed instead of grand-prix speed: keeping the shell settled rather than letting turbulence push it around.
The Raceblock finish, in use
Gloss black, blue and anthracite in hard-edged blocks wipe clean of bug spatter and road film with less effort than a matte shell, at the cost of showing fine scuffs a little more readily — a fair trade for a helmet meant to look sharp rather than worn-in. The block layout is set along the shell's own lines rather than sitting flat across them, following the spoiler's shape instead of ignoring it. Set next to Inkrider's broken, printed texture, Raceblock is the more graphic, less painterly of the two approaches Shark offers on this shell — flat colour fields rather than a pattern, which tends to read more clearly from a distance on the road even if it's less intricate up close.
A rider deciding between the two isn't choosing between better and worse — Inkrider suits a rider who prefers texture and doesn't mind it reading differently depending on the light, Raceblock suits a rider who wants the colours to look the same from every angle.Old standard versus new
ECE 22.05, in force until 2024, struck a helmet's shell at five fixed points, at one impact speed, and tested it as a bare shell with no visor fitted. ECE 22.06 — mandatory across the EU since January 2024, and what the Skwal Cup is certified to — strikes eighteen points at a range of speeds, adds an oblique-impact test against an abrasive anvil to reproduce the twisting loads of a real crash, introduces a rotational Brain Injury Criterion alongside the older linear measurement, and tests the helmet as actually worn: visor, Pinlock insert and a comms unit fitted. This model carries 2206 with no FIM suffix.
Vision, sorted from the first ride
An Optical class 1 visor with a Pinlock 70 insert fitted handles fogging without a separate purchase, and it comes off tool-free for cleaning. Photochromic tinting isn't offered on this shell — Shark's IRID compatibility list names the AERON GP, AERON and RACE R PRO, and the Skwal Cup isn't among them.
Neck fatigue is cumulative
A helmet doesn't get heavier as a ride goes on — but the neck holding it does get more tired, and that's a cumulative effect rather than a fixed one, which is why weight matters more on a five-hour ride than a five-minute one. Shark's figure for the Skwal Cup is 1,580 g (+/-50 g), quoted for the smallest shell size; the larger shell used for L-XXL will typically add some weight for the same design. Set against the roughly 1,250 g to 1,800 g range most road-legal full-face helmets in our catalogue occupy, the Skwal Cup sits closer to the middle than either edge.
Airflow, kept simple
One intake at the front, two exhausts at the rear — a compact layout that doesn't interrupt the shell's aerodynamic lines with extra scoops.
Cleaning it after a hot ride
Pulling the Alveotech liner for a wash takes a couple of minutes and no tools — the antibacterial, suede-finish material is built to keep working through repeated high-mileage weeks, not just look good on day one.
Sun visor, intercom, glasses
The internal sun visor works from a crown slider. The shell accepts a SENA-style intercom unit as-is. The outer visor is tool-free to remove. Cheek pads are cut to leave room for glasses arms.
Getting the fit right
The size run spans XS to XXL across two shell sizes, which keeps the smaller half of the range from riding in an oversized shell and the larger half properly supported.
What the price actually buys
At €319.99, this decor sits above the Ridill 2 (from €189.99) and the D-Skwal 3 (from €219.99), and close to the Skwal i3 (€319.99 to €399.99 by decor) and Skwal i Cup (from €329.99). The difference between this helmet and those last two isn't the shell, the spoiler or the certification — it's the LED brake-light system they carry and the Skwal Cup doesn't.
Parts availability
Four Shark road lines share a spare-visor collection — the Skwal Cup, Ridill 2, D-Skwal 3 and Skwal i3 — confirming that visors for this helmet are stocked as an ongoing part, not a one-off sold only with the original helmet.
Six things this helmet isn't
It isn't LED-equipped — that's the Skwal i3 and Skwal i Cup. It isn't SHARP-rated — the programme has never tested the Skwal Cup, only the Skwal, Skwal 2 and D-Skwal. It isn't FIM-homologated — ECE 22.06 only. It doesn't carry a MIPS liner. It doesn't use an electronic quick-release system. And its visor has no tear-off posts.
In the box
Just the helmet, the visor's Pinlock 70 insert, and the five-year warranty paperwork — nothing else to unpack.
None of the Skwal Cup's engineering is track-only despite the spoiler's origins — the certification, the ventilation and the comfort liner are all built around a helmet that's going to spend most of its life on a commute or a weekend ride rather than a circuit, and Raceblock's graphic doesn't change any of that.
It's a helmet built around a commute first and a weekend ride second, with the graphic as the only thing that changes between colourways.Specification
