DescriptionThe whole story▼
This is the second colourway of the Inkrider graphic, swapping the blue accents for yellow against the same black-and-anthracite base, the ink-stroke pattern breaking across the shell under a matte finish. Same Skwal Cup underneath — same shell, same spoiler, same certification — with a livery built to stand out in traffic rather than reference anyone's race number.
Not just another road shell
Most helmets in this bracket are shaped for comfort and looks and stop there — a smooth dome with a visor, nothing at the back to manage what the air does once it's past the rider's head. The Skwal Cup is different by design: a rear spoiler, developed with computational fluid-dynamics work and proven in a wind tunnel, sits where a plain shell would just let the airflow separate and turn turbulent. That single feature is the reason the Skwal Cup exists as its own model rather than a variant of Shark's other road helmets.
What most helmet pages don't mention
Homologation labels get quoted everywhere; what they actually test rarely does. ECE 22.06, which the Skwal Cup carries, replaced ECE 22.05 as the mandatory EU standard from January 2024 and tests far harder for it: eighteen impact points on the shell instead of five, several impact speeds instead of one, and — new to this standard — an oblique impact against an abrasive anvil, which loads the shell the way a real fall actually does, twisting and grazing rather than dropping straight down. A rotational Brain Injury Criterion is measured for the first time, and the whole helmet is tested assembled, visor and Pinlock and comms unit included, rather than as a stripped shell. No FIM suffix appears on this model's paperwork: it's a road standard, not a competition one.
Small shell, larger shell
Shark builds the Skwal Cup on two shell sizes, and the 1,580 g (+/-50 g) weight figure it quotes applies to the smaller of the two — riders in S or M will be close to that number, while riders in L through XXL are on the larger shell and can expect a somewhat higher figure for the same construction. That distinction is worth knowing before buying rather than after, since a helmet's mass sits on the neck for the entire ride rather than making itself known immediately. Our own range of road-legal full-face helmets mostly runs between roughly 1,250 g and 1,800 g, and this figure lands in the middle of that band.
What's under the paint
Under any of this line's finishes sits the same structure: polycarbonate, moulded in two shell sizes, with a multi-density EPS liner varying its firmness rather than using a single foam grade throughout, closed by a double-D ring rather than a buckle that could shake loose in a fall.
Six sizes, two shells
XS through XXL, built on two shell sizes rather than one, so the smallest and largest heads in the range aren't both compromising to fit the same mould.
The Inkrider yellow finish, in use
Yellow against black and anthracite reads well in low light and grey city backdrops — a practical benefit as much as a styling one, since a helmet that stands out to other road users gets noticed at a junction. The matte surface forgives the small scuffs of daily use — set down on a café table, propped against a wall — better than gloss would, at the cost of slightly more effort to wipe clean after a wet commute.
Small details that matter daily
A crown-slider sun visor, a shell ready for a SENA-style intercom without adaptation, a quick-release outer visor, and cheek pads cut for glasses — the everyday-usability details that show up on a commute rather than a spec sheet.
No invented decibels
There's no published noise rating for this helmet, and none is manufactured here for marketing purposes. What actually reduces noise is a seal around the visor and a chin curtain at the shell's base, closing the air leaks that cause most of the whistle riders notice — the rest depends on the bike, not the helmet alone.
Stepping down, stepping up
Step down from this €319.99 decor and the D-Skwal 3 opens from €219.99, with the Ridill 2 below that from €189.99. Step up and the Skwal i3 runs from €319.99 to €399.99 depending on decor, with the Skwal i Cup starting at €329.99 — the extra outlay there buys an LED brake-light system, not a different shell or certification.
Replacement visors, confirmed
Shark's own spare-parts catalogue includes Skwal Cup visors, grouped with the Ridill 2, D-Skwal 3 and Skwal i3 — worth knowing before a purchase, since it means the visor isn't a discontinued-after-a-season concern.
Honest about the gaps
This helmet skips a few things riders sometimes assume come as standard on a Shark. There's no LED brake light, which the Skwal i3 and Skwal i Cup do carry. There's no SHARP star rating attached to the Skwal Cup — SHARP's own listings cover the Skwal, Skwal 2 and D-Skwal, not this model. The homologation stops at ECE 22.06, with no FIM suffix. No MIPS, no electronic quick-release system, no tear-off posts on the visor either.
In the box
The Skwal Cup, its Pinlock 70 insert already in the visor, and warranty documentation good for five years from purchase.
Colour as a visibility choice, not just a look
Yellow is one of the more conspicuous colours available on a helmet, and that's a practical consideration as much as a styling one: at a junction, in a driver's mirror, or against a grey wet-weather backdrop, a yellow-accented helmet is simply easier to pick out than an all-black one. This decor doesn't go all-in on hi-vis — the base stays black and anthracite — but the yellow is placed where it does the most work for visibility rather than purely for looks.
It's a small design decision, but one that costs nothing at the point of choosing a colourway.Specification
