DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
Whizzy in TC-11 is the green colourway, and green is the rarest base colour on any helmet shelf — rarer still on a jet, where the market skews heavily towards black and retro cream. This is the one people ask about.
What MOTORRAD measured, and how
A verdict from a twenty-helmet field tells you more than a rating from a solo test, because the comparison is what generates the ranking. MOTORRAD's issue 21/2025 jet comparison placed the J-Cruise 3 in the „very good" band, supported by laboratory work at TÜV Rheinland.
🔵 The magazine issues worded verdicts rather than numeric grades — treat any number attached to this result as somebody else's arithmetic.
About the Whizzy TC-11 colourway
The scarcity of green helmets is a commercial fact rather than a technical one: green sells more slowly than black in every market, so fewer are made, so fewer are seen, so the ones that exist stand out. There is a perceptual footnote worth knowing as well. Human daylight vision peaks in the green part of the spectrum, around 555 nanometres, which means green is resolved faster and at lower light levels than a red or blue of equal brightness — the reason emergency signage and much high-visibility workwear converge there. On an open-face helmet used in town, where being noticed at a junction is the whole safety argument, that is not a trivial property. Green is also a stable pigment that holds under ultraviolet.
What an open-face helmet does and does not do
The chin region is not a marginal area in crash statistics — it takes a substantial share of impacts, which is the entire reason the full-face format exists. An open-face helmet leaves it uncovered, and no amount of shell quality above it changes that.
🔵 The J-Cruise 3 is certified under ECE 22.06 in the open-face category. That is a real certification for a real category, and it is not the same as a full-face approval.
AIM, three shells, and a buckle that will not open by accident
Shell count solves size; it does not solve shape. The J-Cruise 3 follows Shoei's intermediate-oval head form, and a markedly long or markedly round head will find pressure points regardless of how many shells the range uses.
What three tools decide is proportion and weight — and on a jet, where the shell is fully visible from every angle, proportion is not a trivial consideration.
CJ-2 and QSV-2 — and the Pinlock that is not in the box
Fogging is the one area where an open-face helmet is at a genuine disadvantage in cold weather, because your breath rises directly onto the visor with no chin curtain or breath guard to redirect it. That is precisely why the Pinlock provision matters here.
🔵 The helmet is DKS105-ready; the lens is sold separately and is worth buying with the helmet if you ride in winter.
Three in, three out — the rebuilt ventilation
The face aperture is both the appeal and the engineering problem of an open-face helmet. It admits enormous airflow directly at your face, which is why jets feel cool immediately — and it makes controlled flow over the scalp harder, because air takes the path of least resistance straight back out.
The answer is extraction, and this generation has roughly seventy per cent more of it.
Interior, ear pads and talking to the helmet
Noise on an open-face helmet is a different phenomenon from noise on a full-face — less of it is turbulence around a sealed shell and more of it is simply the world, arriving unfiltered. MOTORRAD measured this helmet at 100 km/h in a wind tunnel, which is the only way to compare jets on that basis meaningfully.
The removable ear pads are the component you can actually adjust.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
Price ladders in helmets usually track shell material. In Shoei's range they do not — the composite construction is common to all of these — so the table below reads as a list of formats rather than of quality tiers.
Pick the shape of helmet your riding needs and the price follows from it. The J-Cruise 3 is the premium open-face.
| Model | Type |
|---|---|
| J.O2 | Jet |
| Glamster06 | Full-face (retro) |
| J-Cruise 3 | Jet (premium) |
| GT-Air3 | Full-face (sport-touring) |
| Neotec 3 | Flip-up (P/J) |
| X-SPR PRO | Full-face (racing) |
Around 1400 grams, and the rest of the honest list
A jet is quieter than people expect at town speeds and louder than they expect at motorway speeds, and no shell design changes that fundamentally — the air reaches your ears with less in the way. MOTORRAD measured this one at 100 km/h in a wind tunnel, which is the honest way to compare.
The removable ear pads are the part you can adjust. The absent chin bar is the part you cannot.
When something wears out
Before ordering anything, check the generation. The J-Cruise, J-Cruise II and J-Cruise 3 share a name and a silhouette, and their visor and sun visor parts do not interchange. The screen here is the CJ-2 and the anti-fog lens is the Pinlock EVO DKS105.
Interior parts are model-specific too, and all stocked separately.
