DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
Acconic is the second graphic family on the J-Cruise 3, and TC-2 is its purple colourway. 🔵 Worth stating plainly because catalogues get it wrong: this one is violet, not blue — a distinction that matters if you are matching it to a motorcycle.
What MOTORRAD measured, and how
The J-Cruise 3 is the premium end of Shoei's open-face range, and premium claims deserve external evidence. Here it is: „very good" from MOTORRAD in a twenty-helmet comparison, issue 21/2025, with TÜV Rheinland laboratory support and wind-tunnel noise measurement.
No equivalent SHARP rating exists, because SHARP does not test open-face helmets.
About the Acconic TC-2 colourway
Purple is the least-used colour in motorcycling and the hardest to reproduce consistently, which is why it appears so rarely and why it is worth a closer look when it does. The difficulty is physical: violet sits at the short-wavelength end of the visible spectrum, where pigments are both expensive and less stable, and where small differences in formulation shift the result towards either blue or red. Getting a true violet that stays violet across a compound-curved shell under different light is a genuine production achievement. On the road it behaves like a dark colour for conspicuity purposes — it will not stand out at dusk the way white or yellow does — but it is unquestionably the most distinctive helmet in this range.
What an open-face helmet does and does not do
What you gain and what you give up, in one place. Gain: unobstructed peripheral vision, direct airflow, glasses on and off without a struggle, conversation without removal, and a helmet that goes on in one movement.
🔵 Give up: chin and jaw protection entirely. ECE 22.06's open-face category has no chin impact requirement because there is nothing there to impact.
AIM, three shells, and a buckle that will not open by accident
Composite shells vary from unit to unit in a way injection-moulded ones do not, because laid material is never quite identical twice. Shoei builds its shells in-house rather than buying them in, and AIM is a proprietary laminate rather than a bought-in specification — which is where the process control that keeps that variation small actually lives.
Three shell sizes, XS to XXL, over multi-density EPS.
CJ-2 and QSV-2 — and the Pinlock that is not in the box
The CJ-2 is a large screen and that has a consequence riders notice on their first ride: with no chin bar and a visor that reaches well into the periphery, the visual experience is closer to wearing goggles than to looking out of a helmet. That openness is the entire reason to choose this format.
It carries over 99 % UV rejection, a spoiler edge against draught, and a lock against unintended opening.
Three in, three out — the rebuilt ventilation
Cold weather is the other half of the ventilation story and it is worth saying that a jet is a summer-biased helmet regardless of what you close. Air reaches your face through the aperture whether the vents are shut or not, and no amount of sealing changes that.
What the three closable intakes do is stop the additional flow over the crown, which is the part you can control.
Interior, ear pads and talking to the helmet
Comfort on a jet is decided by the crown and the cheeks, since there is no chin bar to help locate the helmet. That makes pad condition more consequential here: a compressed liner lets the helmet move on the head with nothing else holding it in place.
All padding is removable, washable and replaceable, and the ear pads come out independently.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
Worth one honest line: nothing Shoei makes is cheap, and there are competent jet helmets at a third of this price. What 549 euros buys here is the combination — three shell sizes, a panoramic visor, a full-size sun visor, a rebuilt ventilation system, a communication interface and a serviceable interior.
Whether that combination is worth it depends on how much you ride in an open-face.

Around 1400 grams, and the rest of the honest list
Nothing here is buried, so the summary in one place: no chin bar, Pinlock EVO DKS105 sold separately, SENA SRL3 sold separately, intermediate-oval fit, and a price that sits at the top of the open-face market.
Against that: roughly 1400 g, three shell sizes, a panoramic CJ-2 visor, a stepless QSV-2 sun visor and a MOTORRAD „very good".
When something wears out
Everything on this helmet that touches you or that you look through is a serviceable part: crown liner, cheek pads, ear pads, chin strap cover, CJ-2 visor and QSV-2 sun visor. That list is itself a specification, and it is what makes a 549-euro helmet a five-year purchase rather than a three-year one.
🔵 Add the Pinlock EVO DKS105 — it is not supplied.
