DescriptionThe whole story▼
White, black and grey is the monochrome GOBI — no colour anywhere, the design carried entirely by value. It is the version that will still look current in five years, because there is no palette to date.
Anti-Vibration EPS — two shells and a rubber layer
An adventure helmet is a peak and a wide aperture held in clean air at 120 km/h, which makes it a vibration generator by design. Rather than trying to eliminate the turbulence, Nexx isolated the rider from part of it — a rubber layer between the inner and outer EPS lets the inner shell move fractionally.
That is the Anti-Vibration EPS, and it is unique to this helmet in Nexx's range.
About the GOBI White Grey graphic
Monochrome graphics age better than coloured ones for a simple reason: colours belong to seasons and values do not. A white, grey and black treatment reads as design rather than as a marker of when the helmet was bought, and on a helmet likely to outlast the motorcycle under it that is worth something. It also keeps a genuinely high overall value, so the conspicuity benefit of a pale shell survives — this is among the easier X.WED3 versions to see in flat light. 🔵 The white areas show trail spray and road film sooner than the grey ones do, which after a wet day gives the helmet a visibly two-tone appearance until it is washed.
The X-Matrix2 shell and the X-Foam bumpers
The X-Foam bumpers deserve as much attention as the shell material. They are ultralight EPP layers on the chin and sides — the regions an adventure helmet actually strikes — and Nexx's stated aim is reducing collarbone and thorax injury risk as well as absorbing impact.
Around them: the X-Matrix2 hybrid shell, 1790 g claimed, in three outer sizes.
| Shell | Construction | Weight (Nexx) | Decors |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Matrix2 | multiaxial fibreglass + 3D organic fibre, Kevlar/aramid, carbon reinforced | 1790 g ±50 | Plain, GOBI |
| X-PRO Carbon | carbon fibre | 1725 g | Wild Pro, KEYO, FURKA, Zero Pro, Golden Dune |
F.R.S.® — both cheek pads at once
The Fast Release System is one of three features on this helmet aimed at people other than the rider — alongside the moulded night-vision reflectors and the four separate market approvals.
F.R.S. releases both cheek pads at once, without tools, so the helmet can be removed with minimal head and neck movement.
Recoil visor, sun visor and the second shield in the box
🔵 Two visors in the box is worth pricing into any comparison. Most adventure helmets supply one and sell the rest; the X.WED3 includes a second visor and a fitted Pinlock 70 MaxVision anti-fog lens.
Both run on the same Recoil base plates, which re-tension automatically against the twin-lip beads each time the visor closes.
Seven intakes — and a measurement that disagrees
🔵 A caution about vent counts generally. Manufacturers count differently, openings are not equal, and a helmet with seven intakes is not necessarily better ventilated than one with four. This helmet is the clearest example we know: seven closable intakes, a patent-pending chamber, and a measured cooling score of 1 out of 5.
Read the design and the measurement together rather than either alone.
How loud it actually is
Two riders will describe the same helmet completely differently, and neither will be wrong: height, riding position, screen and shoulder airflow change the result more than the shell does.
🔵 The one comparable figure is the measured one: 103 dB average at 130 km/h, scored 3/5 in an independent road test.
Interior, materials and fit
Washing the interior is a job you will do often on an adventure helmet, and the F.R.S. system makes the cheek pads a ten-second operation. The crown pad and chin-strap covers come out separately, and X-Mart Dry dries considerably faster than a plain fabric liner.
🔵 Sweat breaks down foam over time; a liner washed a few times a season lasts appreciably longer.
1790 grams, and the rest of the honest list
Nexx quotes 1790 g ±50, and the tolerance is worth reading — a 100 g spread across sizes is normal, and three outer shells mean an XXXL carries considerably more material than an XXS.
🔵 Alongside it: no SHARP rating, measured ventilation of 1/5, and measured noise of 103 dB at 130 km/h.
Goggles, comms, camera and spare parts
🔵 The goggle-strap holder is the feature that distinguishes this from an adventure helmet with a merely large aperture. It positions the strap correctly at the back of the shell rather than letting it ride up over the crown — the failure mode of goggles on any helmet not designed for them.
It folds into the shell when you are running the visor instead.
