DescriptionThe whole story▼
The red GOBI is the most road-looking version of the composite X.WED3 — and for a helmet that will spend a large share of its life on tarmac, that is an honest signal rather than a compromise.
Anti-Vibration EPS — two shells and a rubber layer
The two-part EPS is worth understanding because it also explains the Mid Airflow Chamber. Splitting the liner creates a gap, and Nexx uses that gap twice: for the rubber decoupling layer, and as an air path around the head.
🔵 One structure, two functions — which is why the X.WED3's shell is thicker than a road helmet's and why it weighs what it does.
About the GOBI Red Blue graphic
It is worth saying plainly that most adventure bikes are ridden mostly on roads, and a helmet that acknowledges this is not a lesser helmet. Red is a high-saturation colour that holds up well against grey tarmac, which puts it among the more conspicuous options in this range without going fluorescent. Its known weakness is ultraviolet: red pigment fades faster than most, and a helmet left strapped to a bike in the sun will lose depth within a couple of seasons. 🔵 Keep it in the bag when parked. As with every graphic here, a stone chip through the printed layer cannot be touched in the way a solid colour can.
The X-Matrix2 shell and the X-Foam bumpers
Three outer shell sizes cover XXS to XXXL, which matters more than the material for how the helmet sits. A single shell padded down leaves small heads inside an oversized helmet — a particular problem on a helmet that already carries a peak.
The shell is X-Matrix2 hybrid composite, claimed at 1790 g, with X-Foam bumpers at the chin and sides.
| Shell | Construction | Weight (Nexx) | Decors |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Matrix2 | multiaxial fibreglass + 3D organic fibre, Kevlar/aramid, carbon reinforced | 1790 g ±50 | Plain, GOBI |
| X-PRO Carbon | carbon fibre | 1725 g | Wild Pro, KEYO, FURKA, Zero Pro, Golden Dune |
F.R.S.® — both cheek pads at once
Washing an adventure helmet's interior is a job you will do far more often than a road helmet's, because it takes dust and sweat rather than sweat alone. F.R.S. makes it a ten-second operation instead of a fiddle.
The safety case is the more important one: both pads release together, so a helmet can be lifted off an injured rider without being forced past the jaw.
Recoil visor, sun visor and the second shield in the box
Twin-lip beads are the detail behind the seal. Most visors close against a single contact line; a double lip gives the spring-loaded plates something to compress, which keeps water out and holds down the whistle that leaks around a visor edge.
🔵 A Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens is included and a second visor comes in the box — unusual at this price.
Seven intakes — and a measurement that disagrees
Closable intakes are the detail that distinguishes this from most adventure helmets. All seven shut, which matters in cold weather — a helmet that ventilates permanently is unusable in a northern winter, and a great many adventure helmets are exactly that.
🔵 In heat, the independent verdict is far less flattering: cooling measured and scored 1 out of 5.
How loud it actually is
The twin-lip visor seal and the spring-tensioned Recoil base plates work against the highest-frequency component of the noise — the whistle that leaks around a poorly seated visor edge. That is the part a helmet can control.
🔵 The measured overall figure was 103 dB at 130 km/h, most of which comes from the peak and the aperture rather than the visor.
Interior, materials and fit
Faux leather with mesh inserts at the front is an unusual combination on an adventure helmet and a deliberate one — leather-look where the helmet touches your face and is seen, open mesh where air needs to pass. The stitching is visible rather than hidden.
The liner behind it is X-Mart Dry, and the crown pad is the alveolar-mesh Air Cumbs.
1790 grams, and the rest of the honest list
🔵 No independent safety rating exists for this helmet. SHARP has not tested the X.WED3 in either shell, and there is no ADAC or Snell result. That means untested rather than poorly rated, but it is a gap in the evidence and worth knowing.
What has been measured: overall 3.4/5, noise 103 dB, ventilation 1/5, comfort 3.5/5. Claimed weight for this shell: 1790 g.
Goggles, comms, camera and spare parts
Retention is a double-D ring with an X-LOCK magnetic catch for the loose end. The double-D has no mechanism to fail and no adjustment that can drift; the magnet solves its only real annoyance, which is a strap tail flapping at speed.
Moulded night-vision reflectors are built into the shell rather than applied as stickers.
