Plain White is the cheapest X.WED3 and, for a helmet whose measured ventilation is its weakest documented specification, the finish that does most to compensate. A pale shell simply absorbs less of the sun.

Anti-Vibration EPS — two shells and a rubber layer

Most helmets treat the impact liner as one rigid block. The X.WED3 splits it into an inner and an outer EPS with a rubber layer between them, so the inner part can move fractionally under the buffeting an adventure helmet always generates.

🔵 It is a comfort and stability system rather than a rotational-impact one. Nexx does not claim it as the latter, and neither do we.

About the white finish

The thermal argument matters more on this helmet than on most, because independent measurement scored its cooling at the very bottom of the scale. Where airflow is limited, the shell's own solar absorption becomes the dominant term — and a white helmet reflects energy that a black one converts directly into interior heat. On an adventure trip that means the difference is felt exactly where the ventilation is not helping: standing still, crawling through a village, waiting at a border in August. It is also the easiest version here for another road user to resolve at head height in flat light. 🔵 The cost is dirt, and this helmet gets genuinely dirty rather than merely dusty.

The X-Matrix2 shell and the X-Foam bumpers

X-Matrix2 is not plain fibreglass. Nexx's process layers multiaxial glass with organic 3D fibre, Kevlar and aramid, and reinforces it with carbon — a hybrid rather than a single material, and quoted at roughly 35 % better in expansion and flex resistance than conventional fibreglass.

🔵 That is a manufacturer's figure. The approvals are the verifiable part: ECE 22-06, DOT, CCC and NBR.

F.R.S.® — both cheek pads at once

🔵 Emergency cheek-pad release is the feature nobody thinks about until it matters, and this is a better implementation than most. Where a conventional system needs each pad pulled separately, F.R.S. releases both together — which halves the handling at exactly the moment handling is the risk.

It is tool-free, and the same mechanism makes routine cleaning trivial.

Recoil visor, sun visor and the second shield in the box

🔵 Unlike Nexx's enduro helmet, the X.WED3 has a drop-down internal sun visor — and this generation's is 18 % larger, reaching to just above the bridge of the nose. On a touring-biased adventure helmet that is the single most useful difference.

The outer visor is the Recoil system, sealing against twin-lip beads, with a Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens included and a second visor supplied.

Seven intakes — and a measurement that disagrees

🔵 This is the most contested specification on the helmet and the one most likely to matter to you. Seven closable intakes, four exhausts and a patent-pending air chamber between the EPS shells — and an independent road test that measured the cooling and scored it 1/5.

Our reading: the design is genuinely clever and the measured result is genuinely poor. Judge it against your own riding, and consider a pale shell if you ride in heat.

How loud it actually is

🔵 A peak is an aerofoil, and at motorway speed it makes noise and lift. No adventure helmet escapes it. What the X.WED3 offers against that is a peak that comes off in seconds and a visor seal engineered against leakage.

Measured: 103 dB average at 130 km/h, scored 3/5.

Interior, materials and fit

🔵 Head shape matters more than circumference for whether a helmet is bearable at hour four. This one is intermediate-to-long oval — longer front-to-back than side-to-side. If your head is distinctly round, try before you buy.

The interior is X-Mart Dry with an alveolar-mesh Air Cumbs crown pad; comfort scored 3.5/5 independently.

1790 grams, and the rest of the honest list

🔵 This is a heavy helmet and there is no way to present it otherwise: 1790 g claimed for this shell. What you get for it is a two-part EPS with a rubber decoupling layer, X-Foam bumpers, an internal sun visor and a second visor in the box.

If weight is your priority, Nexx's enduro helmet is around 300 g lighter and gives up all of that.

Goggles, comms, camera and spare parts

🔵 The X-COM3 integration is genuinely built-in rather than „prepared for" — there are slots for the cables, a recess for the battery and a place for the microphone. A clamped-on unit is what gets knocked off by a branch; an integrated one is not.

Bluetooth 5.2. The system is a separate purchase.
