DescriptionThe whole story▼
Sky Blue is the brightest solid colour Nexx has put on the X.LIFETOUR: a vivid metallic azure in high gloss that covers the entire carbon shell, from the chin bar to the rear spoiler, with black trim only around the visor hinge and the lower edge. In the studio photo it wears the dark Smoke 80% visor, which shows off how well the two work together. It is the colour for riders who want to be seen and who still want the full touring kit of the X.LIFETOUR: a double-sealed aperture, a lockable chin bar legal to ride open, and two visors plus a sun shade from day one.
Vision first: the X-Sensus eye port
On a touring helmet what you see matters as much as what you hear. Nexx widened the aperture on this model and calls it X-Sensus Vision; it is fifteen percent larger than the homologation minimum. In practice that shows when filtering past traffic, glancing at a mirror on a wide adventure bike, or looking up at a hairpin on a mountain pass. Combined with the drop-down internal sun visor, it means fewer head movements over a day.
Two visors, one quick-release
Supplied in the box are a clear visor, already fitted with a Pinlock 120 XLT MaxVision anti-fog insert, and a second visor in Smoke 80%. X-SWIFT, the tool-free mount, lets you change between them at the roadside without fiddly base plates. A sensible routine on tour: dark visor in the morning for sun on the motorway, clear visor for the late run into town, sun shade for anything in between.
The Pro Sky Blue finish up close
The paint has a fine metallic flake that makes the blue look lighter on curved surfaces and deeper in the recesses around the vents. It is gloss everywhere. Practically, that means it wipes clean easily after a day of insects and can be polished back if light marks build up. A pale metallic blue also hides dust and water spots better than black, while showing fewer of the grey film marks that white attracts. Because it is a single colour rather than a print, a paint specialist can repair a chip, and the shade will not look dated the way graphics sometimes do after a few seasons.
Built quiet: the Silent Travel Seal
Two rubber lips instead of one seal the visor aperture and the chin-bar seam, the most common leaks on any flip-up. Nexx names this the Silent Travel Seal. Vortex generators on the chin bar settle the airflow upstream, and the neck roll and cheek pads are acoustic parts that close off the base. We do not print a decibel number, because your screen, bike and seating position decide too much of it.
Sizing with two outer shells
The X-PRO Carbon shell exists in two outer sizes, XS to L and XL to XXXL, with liner and padding changing per size inside. Fewer shells mean that XS and XL sit in relatively large outer shells, which can make them look and feel a little bigger than necessary. The lining follows an intermediate oval shape. Measure your head just above the eyebrows and try both sizes if you fall between two.
Airflow and interior
Ventilation is two closable intakes and two rear outlets, linked by the Mid Airflow Chamber between the EPS layers and the Air Cumbs honeycomb pad on top. The lining is Morpho-Fit with X-Mart Dry fabric, removable and washable, and the cheek pads use the F.R.S. fast-release system for emergency removal. Nexx calls the interior spectacle friendly, but no dedicated glasses channels are listed in our data, so a test with your own frames is wise.
P/J and the Super Locker chin bar
With P/J homologation the helmet is approved closed and open, so riding with the chin bar up is permitted. The Super Locker pivot secures the raised bar, and the release, hidden under the front, has a guard against opening by accident. ECE 22.06, mandatory for new helmets in the EU since 2024, adds tests at several speeds and an oblique impact for rotation, with visors fitted. DOT, CCC and NBR approvals are also held.
What the weight means in practice
The quoted mass is 1,750 g, plus or minus 50 g. A size M weighed in an independent road test came to 1,860 g. Flip-ups carry hinge hardware and a stiffened chin bar, so they are rarely light; spread over a long day, that shows up as tension in the neck, especially in turbulent air. Pair it with a screen that gives clean airflow and take regular breaks.
Fit matters as much as mass here. A helmet that sits snugly, with the cheek pads pressing evenly and no gap at the brow, stays put in a crosswind and feels lighter than a loose one of the same weight. Adjust the micrometric ratchet buckle so that two fingers fit under the strap, and recheck it after the padding has settled over the first few hundred kilometres.
Pro or Aura: which X.LIFETOUR?
Both lines share the same X-PRO Carbon shell, homologation, visors and accessories. The difference is purely visual. Aura is a banded graphic over partly exposed carbon in several colourways, gloss or matt. Pro, available in Sky Blue and Fury Red, hides the carbon under one solid gloss colour. If you like a single colour that matches your bike and can be touched up, choose Pro; if you want the carbon weave on show, look at Aura or the all-carbon Zero Pro.
Honest limitations
Weight is the main compromise. Two shells for seven sizes is coarse at the extremes. There is no peak, so it is not meant for gravel or off-road. Bright gloss shows scratches if wiped dry, and blue metallics can fade slightly after years in strong sun. The intercom and camera are prepared but not included; two removable camera mounts and night reflectors on front, sides and rear come with it, and spares for visors, pads and the chin bar are available from Nexx.
