DescriptionThe whole story▼
Fury Red takes the X.LIFETOUR in the opposite direction to the graphic lines: no stripes, no exposed weave, just one deep candy red in high gloss over the whole carbon shell. Only a small X-PRO Carbon script on the chin bar tells you what is underneath. The result looks closer to a car paint job than a race replica, and suits riders who want a carbon modular for long trips without advertising it. Everything that makes the X.LIFETOUR a tourer stays: P/J homologation, a double-sealed aperture, two visors and a sun shade.
Carbon you cannot see
The Pro line uses the same X-PRO Carbon shell as the graphic versions, a 3K weave that Nexx rates as aerospace grade, produced in two outer sizes. Painting it fully means you keep the stiffness and the structural benefit of the fibre while losing the visual signature. Some riders prefer that: a solid colour is easier to match to a bike, does not date as fast as a graphic, and a professional paint shop can touch it in after a chip, which is not possible with a printed design.
Do not expect the fibre to make a flip-up light, though. On a fixed full-face, carbon removes a clear share of the mass; on a modular, the hinge, the locks and the chin-bar reinforcement weigh the same whatever the shell is made of, so the saving is modest. What carbon does give you is a stiff, thin shell, which helps keep the outer dimensions of a helmet with this much equipment reasonably compact.
About the Pro Fury Red finish
The tone is a rich metallic red with real depth under the clear coat; in shade it goes almost burgundy, in direct sun it turns bright cherry. Gloss throughout. That makes cleaning simple, since bugs and road film lift with water and a soft cloth, and light hazing can be polished out. Two caveats: gloss shows fine scratches if you wipe it dry, and red pigment is the most sensitive to long-term ultraviolet exposure, so keeping it out of the sun between rides preserves the depth. The colour pays you back on the road, where red is quickly picked out by other traffic.
The weight over a day in the saddle
Nexx specifies 1,750 g with a 50 g tolerance. An independent road test weighed a size M at 1,860 g, and we suggest you plan with that higher figure. The reason modular helmets sit at this level is mechanical: hinge, locking pins and the reinforced chin bar add mass that the shell material cannot offset. What you notice is not a pressure point after twenty minutes but a tired neck after a long day, especially behind a small screen. A screen that puts your head in still air is the most effective counter.
Homologation: ECE 22.06 and P/J
Since January 2024 only ECE 22.06 helmets can be sold new in the EU. The standard tests more points around the shell, at several impact speeds, and includes an oblique impact to assess rotation; visors and approved accessories are mounted during testing. The X.LIFETOUR is approved P/J, which means it passed as a full-face and as an open-face helmet, so riding with the chin bar up is legal. It also carries DOT, CCC and NBR approval.
Silent Travel Seal and the rest of the acoustics
Nexx's central idea for this model is a second rubber lip around the visor opening and around the chin-bar seam, together named Silent Travel Seal. It is backed up by small vortex generators on the chin bar, which tidy the airflow ahead of the seam, and by cheek pads and a neck roll shaped to close the space under the chin. We publish no decibel value of our own; screen, bike and posture change the result too much for a single number to be fair.
Visors in the box and how they swap
Two visors come with the helmet: clear, carrying a pre-installed Pinlock 120 XLT MaxVision anti-fog lens, and Smoke 80% for strong sunlight. X-SWIFT holds them without screws or base plates, so changing at a lay-by takes a moment. A drop-down inner sun visor covers mixed light, and the X-Sensus Vision eye port is fifteen percent wider than the regulation demands.
Intercom and camera ready
The left side of the shell is shaped for the X-COM3 and X-COM3 PRO, Nexx's Bluetooth 5 systems, with speaker pockets and wiring paths inside; on a fully painted helmet that integrated fit keeps the clean look intact. Two action-camera mounts, top and side, are supplied and come off when you do not need them. Reflectors front, side and rear improve visibility after dark.
Inside the helmet
The Morpho-Fit lining is three-dimensionally shaped for an intermediate oval head and uses X-Mart Dry fabric to move moisture away. Every part comes out for washing. F.R.S. allows the cheek pads to be removed while the helmet is still on the rider, which helps paramedics. Air enters via two closable intakes and leaves through two rear exhausts, assisted by the Mid Airflow Chamber between two EPS layers and the Air Cumbs mesh pad at the crown.
Spare parts and long-term care
For a helmet you plan to tour on for years, parts supply matters. Visors, Pinlock lenses, cheek pads, the neck roll, the wind deflector and breath guard, and chin-bar components are all available as genuine Nexx parts. Check the pivot and the rubber seals once a season, and replace the helmet after any significant impact or after roughly five years of use, whichever comes first.
Before you choose this one
The X.LIFETOUR is heavy for a carbon helmet, as explained above. Only two shell sizes serve seven helmet sizes, so riders at XS or XL wear a shell that is roomy for them. There is no peak. A deep gloss red needs more care than a dark or matt colour to stay looking new. Nexx calls the lining spectacle friendly, but our data shows no dedicated glasses channels, so try your own frames. Intercom and camera are separate purchases.
