DescriptionThe whole story▼
Aura Blue Red is the 2027 graphic that lets the carbon do half the talking. A sweep of deep metallic blue runs from the chin bar back across the flanks, a hard red flash cuts in low at the front, and the crown and tail are left as bare 3K weave with thin cyan and white pinstripes tracing the edges. Underneath sits the same X.LIFETOUR that Nexx built for riders who measure a trip in days rather than hours: a carbon flip-up, homologated P/J, with a double-sealed visor aperture aimed squarely at wind roar.
About the Aura Blue Red finish
Aura is a graphic line rather than a paint colour. On this colourway the blue is laid on as broad, slightly translucent bands that let a fine striped texture show through, so the panel shifts from navy to bright cobalt depending on where the light hits. The red is used sparingly, only on the lower chin and a sliver along the jaw, which keeps the helmet from looking busy while still giving drivers behind you something warm to register at dusk.
The whole shell is finished in gloss clear coat, including the exposed carbon. Gloss is the easy one to live with on a touring helmet: dead insects and road film wipe off with a damp microfibre cloth, and fine swirl marks can be polished out. What gloss will not hide is a stone chip on the leading edge; on a printed graphic it cannot be touched in the way a single colour can. Dark blue also hides the grey haze of a week on the motorway far better than white does.
Why the X.LIFETOUR was built around silence
Nexx attacks noise at three points instead of one. The Silent Travel Seal is a double rubber gasket that runs around both the visor opening and the line where the chin bar meets the shell, the two gaps where a modular helmet usually leaks air. Small vortex generators on the chin bar break up the airflow before it reaches that seam, and the cheek pads and neck roll are shaped to close off the turbulent zone under the jaw.
We do not quote a decibel figure of our own; how loud a helmet is depends on your bike, your screen and your posture as much as on the shell. What we can say is that the construction is aimed at the frequencies that tire you out after the third hour, and that earplugs remain the single biggest improvement any rider can make on long motorway stages.
Visibility: eye port, sun visor and the Smoke 80% spare
The aperture is what Nexx calls X-Sensus Vision, an eye port fifteen percent larger than the standard asks for, which you notice most when checking a blind spot over the shoulder. The main visor clips in with X-SWIFT, a tool-free mechanism without base plates to align, and arrives with a Pinlock 120 XLT MaxVision lens already fitted.
A second visor in Smoke 80% is in the box as well, together with the clear one. Behind the outer visor sits a drop-down internal sun shade, so on a mixed day you can leave the dark visor in the tank bag and switch with a thumb on the slider instead.
X-PRO Carbon and what 1,750 grams means for your neck
The shell is X-PRO Carbon, a 3K weave that Nexx describes as aerospace grade, built in two outer sizes. The official weight is 1,750 g plus or minus 50 g. A published road test weighed a size M at 1,860 g on the scale, which is the more honest figure to plan with once visor, Pinlock and padding are counted.
That makes it a heavy helmet, as flip-ups tend to be, because the hinge, the locking hardware and the reinforced chin bar add mass that no fibre choice can remove. Over an eight-hour touring day the difference shows up as neck fatigue rather than discomfort in the first hour. A tall screen that keeps the buffeting off your head helps more than any gram saving would.
P/J homologation and the Super Locker pivot
P/J means the helmet has passed ECE testing both as a full-face and as an open-face helmet, so riding with the chin bar raised is legal in Europe. The Super Locker pivot holds the chin bar positively in the up position, so it cannot drop forward at speed. The release button sits beneath the chin bar and has a catch against accidental opening.
Open is still not the same as closed: with the chin bar up you lose the face protection the closed position gives, and we would treat the open mode as something for fuel stops, traffic queues and slow town riding.
What ECE 22.06 adds over the old standard
The X.LIFETOUR is approved to ECE 22.06, the regulation that has been mandatory for new helmets sold in the EU since January 2024. Compared with 22.05 it adds impacts at several speeds instead of one, a larger number of impact points the lab can choose from, and an oblique test against an abrasive anvil that looks at rotational load. Accessories that are sold for the helmet, such as visors and sun shades, are tested fitted. Alongside ECE, this model also carries DOT, CCC and Brazilian NBR approval.
Two intakes, two exhausts and a chamber in between
Air comes in through two closable vents and leaves through two exhausts at the rear. Between them Nexx places the Mid Airflow Chamber, a gap between two layers of EPS that gives warm air a channel to the back, and the Air Cumbs crown pad, a honeycomb mesh that keeps the lining off the liner. It is a touring setup rather than a racing one: enough flow to keep the visor clear in town, less than a sport helmet at full speed on a hot day.
Interior, cheek pads and riding with glasses
The Morpho-Fit lining is cut in three dimensions and covered in X-Mart Dry fabric, which moves sweat away from the skin. All of it comes out for washing. The F.R.S. system lets a first responder slide the cheek pads out without removing the helmet first. Nexx calls the interior spectacle friendly; our data does not list dedicated glasses channels, so try it with your own frames before a long trip.
What you should know before ordering
Weight is the main compromise, as explained above. The helmet also has only two shell sizes for seven head sizes, so the extremes of each shell, XS and XL, get a thicker liner inside a relatively larger shell. There is no peak; this is a road tourer. The intercom is prepared for but not supplied, and the red sections of the graphic are the part most likely to fade after years of parking in full sun.
Intercom, cameras and spare parts
Speaker pockets and wiring paths are prepared for Nexx X-COM3 and X-COM3 PRO, Bluetooth 5 units that sit flush on the left side. Two removable action-camera mounts are included, one for the top and one for the side. Reflective inserts front, side and rear help at night. Visors, Pinlock lenses, cheek pads, neck roll and the chin-bar parts are all available as genuine Nexx spares.
