DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Red Grey version of Aura is the warmest of the 2027 Aura graphics on the X.LIFETOUR, and the one that reads most clearly as a sport tourer. Glossy crimson covers the side panels and chin, a cool grey wedge sits low behind the jaw, and the woven carbon of the crown is left open, framed by white flashes and a thin gold line that picks up the gold XPRO lettering on the cheek. It is a flip-up for people who cover distance and stop often: a chin bar that lifts with one hand, locks when raised, and is legal to ride open.
One hand, chin bar up: the P/J system first
On a tourer you open the chin bar far more often than you think. Paying at a pump, asking for directions, drinking at a roadside café, talking to a border officer. The X.LIFETOUR makes that a single movement: the release sits under the front of the chin bar, guarded by a safety catch, and the bar swings up and over the crown. Once there, the Super Locker pivot latches it so the bar cannot fall back in a gust or under braking.
Because the helmet is homologated P/J, both positions passed ECE testing. That makes rolling through a queue with the bar up a legal choice rather than a grey area. It does not turn the open helmet into a full-face; practise the release in your touring gloves at home, and close the bar before you get back up to speed.
How the Aura Red Grey graphic wears
The red here is a deep, slightly metallic tone laid in banded layers, so a faint diagonal stripe pattern shows under the clear coat when sunlight crosses it. Grey softens the lower edge, and the bare carbon on the crown keeps the top of the helmet from looking heavy. Everything is finished in gloss.
In daily use gloss is forgiving to clean and quick to polish, but red is the pigment that suffers most from years of ultraviolet light, so a garage or a helmet bag between trips matters more than on a dark helmet. The printed graphic cannot be spot-repaired after a stone strike. On the plus side, a red helmet is easier for oncoming traffic to pick out against a grey sky or a wet road.
Two shells, seven sizes: getting the fit right
Nexx makes the X.LIFETOUR in two outer shells: one covers XS to L, the other XL to XXXL. Inside, the EPS and padding change for each size. That is a coarser step than helmets built with three or four shells, which means XS and XL each sit in a shell that is generous for them. Riders on the borderline of two sizes should try both, and the Morpho-Fit lining follows an intermediate oval head shape, the most common in Europe.
Spring to autumn: how the ventilation is set up
Two intakes open and close independently, two outlets at the back pull air through. Between the inner and outer layers of EPS there is a patent-pending gap Nexx calls the Mid Airflow Chamber, and the crown pad uses the Air Cumbs honeycomb to keep a thin layer of air moving over the scalp. In cool weather you close everything and let the Silent Travel Seal keep the draught out; in summer, open both intakes and crack the visor on its first detent at low speed.
Weight across a full day
Nexx states 1,750 g with a tolerance of 50 g for the carbon shell, and a published road test put a size M on the scale at 1,860 g. Either way this is not a featherweight. The extra mass of any modular comes from the pivot, the locks and the stiffened chin bar. Across a long day that is felt at the base of the skull, particularly behind a short screen where the helmet is pushed around. Matching the helmet to a screen that leaves your head in clean air is the best remedy.
Visor, Pinlock and sun shade
X-SWIFT lets you swap the outer visor without tools in under a minute, which is useful because two are supplied: clear, and a Smoke 80% tint for bright days. The clear one comes with a Pinlock 120 XLT MaxVision insert pre-installed. An integrated sun visor drops down behind it, and the eye port is fifteen percent bigger than the regulation minimum.
Noise: three systems, one goal
The Silent Travel Seal doubles the rubber around the visor aperture and the chin-bar joint. Vortex generators on the chin bar calm the air ahead of that joint, and the cheek pads and neck roll are acoustic parts as much as comfort parts, closing the gap at the bottom of the helmet. We do not publish a decibel figure; on your bike the result depends on screen height and riding position.
X-COM3 and camera mounts
The shell has a recess and cable routing for the X-COM3 or X-COM3 PRO, Nexx's own Bluetooth 5 intercoms, so the unit fits flush rather than sticking out on a clamp. Top and side camera mounts come with the helmet and can be removed when not needed. Reflective inserts on the front, sides and back add night visibility.
X.LIFETOUR finishes compared
| Line | Look | Carbon visible | Shell |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aura | Banded graphic, gloss or matt | Crown and tail | X-PRO Carbon |
| Pro Mile | Graphic on carbon | Yes | X-PRO Carbon |
| Pro | Solid gloss colour | No, fully painted | X-PRO Carbon |
| Zero Pro | Plain carbon | Whole shell | X-PRO Carbon |
The construction, homologation and kit are the same across all of them; only the surface changes.
Limits worth knowing
It is heavy, as covered above. Two shells for seven sizes is a compromise at the small and large ends. There is no peak, so it is not an adventure helmet. Our data shows no dedicated glasses channels, although Nexx describes the lining as spectacle friendly, so test it with your own frames. Intercom and camera are sold separately.
