The JP ES 007 is the electrical half of Ducati's secondary air deletion, and on the Hyperstrada 939 it takes the place of the solenoid the engine controller spends its life watching.

Nine Hundred and Thirty-Seven Cubic Centimetres
The same Testastretta as the Hypermotard, with softer suspension and a taller screen. The engine suits touring better than the styling suggests.
The Circuit the ECU Watches
Coil resistance, read at every ignition cycle. An empty connector is electrically identical to a broken wire and the dashboard reports it as a fault.
A Twin Sounds Different
Two large cylinders produce widely spaced exhaust pulses, and residue burning between them is more distinct than on a four. Owners of the big twins notice this most.
An Ageing Solenoid
On older Ducatis the valve fails by itself, producing exactly the fault an owner creates by removing it. Some of these are fitted as repairs.
Not a Universal Part
Resistances and connectors vary across the range, and fitting the wrong one produces a different fault rather than none at all.
Why Not Leave It Alone
Plenty of people do, and on a standard motorcycle with the original exhaust there is very little reason to change anything.
Living With the Lamp
Some riders do, which works until an unrelated fault appears and cannot be distinguished from the one that has been present for two years.
What the System Was Actually For
It exists because emissions legislation measures what leaves the exhaust, and burning leftover hydrocarbons in the pipe improves that measurement without changing anything about combustion. Understanding that is what makes the rest obvious: removing it cannot cost power, because it was never adding any, and it cannot hurt the engine, because it never touched the intake side at all.
The Connector's Locking Tab
Ducati's plugs latch and the latch does not always release where a gloved thumb expects it to. Levering at the wrong point breaks the tab, and a connector with a broken tab has to be replaced rather than persuaded. Looking at the plug before pulling on it is the whole of the technique.
