The JP ES 007 sits in the Scrambler 1100's own connector in place of the secondary air valve, and it is the reason the panel stays dark once the hardware is gone.

Air Cooled at Eleven Hundred
Ducati kept the old architecture at a capacity nobody expected it to survive, which is most of the 1100's appeal to the people who buy one.
Impedance, Not a Bridge
This unit answers with the value the controller expects. A wire looped across the pins answers with a different wrong value and produces its own code.
Combine It With Something Else
Doing this alongside a filter change or an exhaust fitting means the bodywork comes off once. On its own it is a perfectly reasonable and slightly wasteful evening.
An Ageing Solenoid
On older Ducatis the valve fails by itself, producing exactly the fault an owner creates by removing it. Some of these are fitted as repairs.
The Test Runs at Every Start
It is not an occasional check. Every ignition cycle the controller looks for the coil, which is why an unplugged valve complains immediately and permanently.
A Cold Morning
The system is most active during warm-up, which is when the crackle is loudest and when a failing solenoid is most likely to be caught by the self-test.
A Job Best Done Once
Combining this with a filter change, a coolant service or an exhaust fitting means the disassembly is paid for by something else. Doing it alone is possible and slightly wasteful.
What Happens If You Simply Unplug It
The controller pulses the circuit within seconds of the ignition coming on, finds nothing, stores a fault and lights the panel. From then on the warning sits there permanently and any later fault arrives behind it, invisible until somebody plugs in a diagnostic tool and reads the memory properly. That is the practical reason a passive resistance is worth the money over an empty connector.
Clearing the Memory Afterwards
Fitting the eliminator stops new faults being stored, but it does not erase the ones already there. A diagnostic tool clears the history in seconds and it is worth doing at the same time, because a warning that was already logged will otherwise sit in the record and confuse the next person who reads it, whether that is a dealer, a buyer or you in three years.
