Dark Shadow reduziert den D-Skwal 3 auf eine schmucklose mattschwarze Schale — farblich wie das Blank-Dekor, aber unter eigenem Reihennamen verkauft und, nach Sharks eigener Benennung und Unterlagen, mit einer getoenten Scheibe statt der klaren kombiniert.
Was Dark Shadow ausmacht
Keine Grafik, nur eine flache schwarze Flaeche — und dazu eine dunkle Scheibe, die bei den Blank-Ausfuehrungen klar ausfaellt. Genau diese Paarung ist die gesamte Identitaet der Reihe: ein schlichter Helm und eine getoente Scheibe, als bewusste Kombination verkauft und nicht als Schale allein. Gedacht ist das fuer Fahrer, die die einfachste moegliche Oberflaeche wollen, die Optik einer getoenten Scheibe dazu aber von Anfang an mitnehmen moechten, statt sie spaeter einzeln zu besorgen und zu montieren.
Was eine dunkle Scheibe im Alltag bedeutet
Sie ersetzt keine klare. Bei Dunkelheit, in Tunneln und bei starkem Regen gehoert eine klare Scheibe vor die Augen, und die ist bei diesem Dekor ein getrennter Kauf. Welchen Toenungsgrad die mitgelieferte Scheibe genau traegt, beziffert Shark in den geprueften Unterlagen nicht — belegt ist die Toenung, nicht ihr Prozentwert, und dieser Text nennt deshalb keinen. Wer den Helm ganzjaehrig und auch nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit faehrt, sollte eine zweite, klare Scheibe von vornherein mit einplanen.
Die Scheibenfamilie dahinter
Alle Scheiben dieses Helms gehoeren zur Familie VZ400, die sich Skwal i3, Skwal i Cup, Skwal Cup, Ridill 2 und der D-Skwal 3 teilen. Ihre Merkmale: optische Klasse 1, ein Vortex-Generator an der Kante, eine von 3 auf 2,2 Millimeter abnehmende Staerke, Antikratzbehandlung, eine Aufnahme fuer einen Max-Vision-Pinlock 70 mit nachstellbarer Spannung, ein zentraler Griff mit Mittelverriegelung und ein Wechsel ohne Werkzeug. Bei den Farbausfuehrungen gilt es, den Freigabevermerk zu lesen: Iridium in Blau, Pink und Rot ist nur fuer Tagfahrten vorgesehen, Iridium beziehungsweise Chrom in Silber und Gold ausschliesslich fuer die Rennstrecke.
Der Preis dieser Reihe
249,99 Euro Listenpreis. Das liegt zwischen den beiden Blank-Ausfuehrungen mit 219,99 Euro und dem Grossteil der gemusterten Dekore mit 269,99 Euro. Alle drei Dark-Shadow-Varianten kosten gleich viel; sie unterscheiden sich ausschliesslich in der Helligkeit ihres Grautons.
Matte Oberflaeche
Nicht polieren. Poliermittel hinterlassen auf Mattlack glaenzende Stellen, die sich nicht zurueckholen lassen. Mildes Wasser, Seife und ein weiches Tuch genuegen. Feine Kratzspuren verschwinden auf dieser Flaeche nahezu vollstaendig, waehrend sie auf einer schwarzen Glanzflaeche unter direkter Sonne als Schleier erscheinen wuerden; ein tiefer Schrammer bleibt dafuer als hellere Linie stehen. Da unter der Mattschicht keine Druckebene liegt, gibt es hier nichts, was ausbleichen koennte.
Gewicht und Bauweise
1,54 kg nennt Shark fuer die erste, kleinere Schale, ausdruecklich nicht fuer Groesse M; ein unabhaengiger Langzeittest bestaetigt den Wert am eigenen Exemplar. Fuer die groessere Schale, die L bis XXL traegt, ist ein etwas hoeherer Wert zu erwarten, ohne dass eine belegte Zahl vorliegt. Zwei Schalengroessen decken sechs Konfektionsgroessen ab. Als Werkstoff nennt der Hersteller Thermoplast, die Fachpresse spricht von Polycarbonat. Innen arbeitet ein EPS-Kern mit mehreren Dichten, gehalten wird der Helm von einer mikrometrischen Ratsche.
Zulassung
ECE 22.06. Fuer neue Typgenehmigungen ist diese Fassung in der EU seit Januar 2024 verbindlich; sie prueft an achtzehn statt an fuenf Stellen, bei mehreren statt einer Anprallgeschwindigkeit, ergaenzt einen Schraegaufprall gegen eine raue Platte und leitet daraus eine Bewertung der Drehbelastung des Kopfes ab. Geprueft wird der Helm im Auslieferungszustand mit Scheibe, Pinlock und angebautem Kommunikationsgeraet. Die Normspalte der Herstellerpreisliste zeigt bei jeder Zeile dieses Modells 2206, ohne FIM-Zusatz.
SHARP: der Eintrag, der nicht hierhergehoert
Unter dem Namen Shark D-Skwal fuehrt das britische Verzeichnis vier Sterne aus einem Test vom Oktober 2018. Geprueft wurde dort gegen die alte Fassung 22.05, das Exemplar wog 1,53 kg, angeboten wurden die Groessen XS bis XL zu 169,99 Pfund. Unser Helm ist durchgehend nach 22.06 zugelassen, beginnt bei 219,99 Euro und reicht bis XXL — ein anderer Helm einer anderen Normgeneration. Fuer den D-Skwal 3 existiert kein Eintrag; die zugehoerige Adresse liefert eine Fehlermeldung. Diese Beschreibung nennt deshalb keine Sterne.
Luft
Zwei Einlaesse am Kinn, zwei Auslaesse am Scheitel, alle verschliessbar und mit Handschuhen zu bedienen. Ein Langzeittester haelt die Wirkung bei gewoehnlichen Temperaturen fuer ausreichend und schreibt zugleich, dass eine Fahrt bei dreissig Grad ueber das hinausging, was die Oeffnungen ohne geoeffnetes Visier leisten konnten.
Laerm
Derselbe Bericht ueber 1.700 Meilen bezeichnet den Helm ohne Ohrstoepsel als ziemlich laut und beschreibt ein Pfeifen oberhalb von etwa 40 km/h, sobald das Visier fuer zusaetzliche Luft einen Spalt geoeffnet wird — deutlich genug, um auf der Tonspur einer Actionkamera zu erscheinen. Eine Dezibelmessung existiert nicht.
Innenraum, Groessen, Grenzen
Ausfahrbare Sonnenblende, Vorbereitung fuer Sharktooth- oder SENA-Einheiten, Nut fuer Brillenbuegel, entnehmbares und waschbares Futter; sechs Groessen fuer Kopfumfaenge von 53/54 bis 63/64 Zentimeter. Nicht vorhanden sind MIPS, ein EQRS-Notfallsystem, Aufnahmen fuer Abreissfolien und eine werkseitige Photochrom-Freigabe, die Shark nur fuer AERON GP, AERON und RACE R PRO fuehrt. Ohne Beleg bleiben DOT, Snell, eine P-Kennzeichnung, Certimoov, ADAC, Polsterstaerken, die bevorzugte Kopfform und jeder Geraeuschmesswert. Belegt sind fuenf Jahre Garantie bei Registrierung, die Fertigung in Portugal und eine eigene Ersatzteilkollektion, in deren Ueberschrift der D-Skwal 3 namentlich steht.
Drei Dark-Shadow-Varianten im Vergleich
Die Reihe existiert dreifach, und der Unterschied liegt allein im Ton der Schale. Diese Ausfuehrung ist die dunkelste, ein mattes Schwarz. Daneben gibt es eine in neutralem Gunmetal-Grau und eine in einem helleren, silbrigen Grau, das Shark Titan nennt. Schale, Scheibe, Verschluss, Groessenlauf, Zulassung und Preis sind bei allen dreien identisch. Wer sich entscheidet, waehlt also ausschliesslich, wie hell der Helm neben der eigenen Jacke wirken soll — und diese Variante ist die, die den geringsten Kontrast zu dunkler Kleidung bildet und im Strassenbild am wenigsten auffaellt.
Aerodynamik und Spoiler
Hinten sitzen Spoilerfinnen, die auf einer schmucklosen Schale als Formelement besonders deutlich hervortreten, weil kein Muster von ihnen ablenkt. Shark beschreibt die Form als im Windkanal erprobt und nennt als Ziel eine hohe Luftdurchdringung bei zugleich vermindertem Ruetteln sowie eine stabile Lage bei hohem Tempo; auf der Kollektionsseite kommt eine Auslegung per Stroemungssimulation hinzu. Das sind Aussagen des Herstellers. Ein Widerstandsbeiwert oder ein einsehbarer Pruefbericht ist nirgends veroeffentlicht, und diese Beschreibung macht daraus kein gemessenes Ergebnis.
