DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
Sharpen is the more angular of the two Neotec 3 graphic families, and TC-1 is its red colourway — the code Shoei has used for its red-based schemes across the range for years, which is why it looks familiar even on a helmet you have not seen before.
Five stars from SHARP — and the number behind them
The reason SHARP exists is that ECE approval is a pass mark rather than a ranking. Every helmet legally sold in Europe has cleared 22.06; nothing on the label tells you which ones cleared it comfortably. SHARP measures that difference on helmets bought at retail and publishes it.
For the Neotec 3 the answer is five stars out of five, tested February 2024, with the chin bar holding in 93 % of impacts.
About the Sharpen TC-1 colourway
Red is the colour riders most often want and most often regret, so it is worth being straight about it on a helmet you will own for years. Red pigment is the least lightfast of the common colours — it absorbs the high-energy end of sunlight, which is precisely what breaks pigment down — and a red that spends its summers on a parcel shelf or in a sunny window will shift before any other part of the helmet ages. Kept in a bag or a dark cupboard between rides it will outlast the liner comfortably. The upside is real too: red is the second most conspicuous helmet colour after fluorescent yellow in daylight, and on a graphic that places it on the forward-facing panels, that visibility lands where an approaching driver actually looks.
P and J, and what ECE 22.06 actually tests
Straight-line impact was always the easier engineering problem. ECE 22.06 added the harder one: an oblique drop that measures rotational acceleration against the Brain Injury Criterion, alongside up to eighteen strike points and a second, lower impact speed.
The Neotec 3 cleared that and carries P/J — two separate certifications of the same shell, one closed and one open.
AIM, three shells, and the steel that holds the chin bar
Stainless steel rather than a polymer latch is a specification worth having on a chin bar, and the reason is fatigue rather than strength. A modular latch is operated thousands of times over a helmet's life, in salt, rain and grit. Steel holds its geometry through that; plastics creep.
Behind it, an AIM shell — fibreglass and organic fibre in resin — over multi-density EPS, in three sizes.
CNS-3C and QSV-2 — and the Neotec II trap
Tool-free visor changes sound like a convenience feature and are really a safety one, because a screen you can change at the roadside is a screen you will actually change. A scratched visor scatters oncoming headlights into a starburst — invisible in daylight, dangerous after dark — and the ones that stay on helmets too long are the ones that need a workshop to remove.
🔵 Buy CNS-3C, not CNS-3.
Quiet by design, and what that costs in airflow
The removable insect filter in the lower front vent is the kind of detail that only appears on helmets designed by people who tour. Anyone who has cleaned a summer's worth of insects out of a ventilation channel understands immediately why it is there — and it costs a small amount of airflow to fit.
🔵 That trade runs through the whole helmet: quiet and considered, rather than maximally cool.
Noise Isolator, glasses, and talking to the helmet
Communication is designed in rather than bolted on. The COMLINK interface carries the SENA SRL3 Mesh system in recesses moulded into the EPS, with cabling already routed — so there is no drilling, no adhesive mount, and nothing protruding into the airstream on a helmet whose whole character is built around low turbulence.
The interior around the installation remains fully removable and washable.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
If you are stepping up from a mid-range modular, the useful comparison is not within this table but outside it. A far cheaper flip-up will give you a chin bar and a sun visor too. What the Neotec 3 adds is a five-star shell, a 93 % chin-bar retention figure, three shell sizes and an acoustic package that testers single out.
Whether that is worth double is a judgement only you can make.

1750 grams, and the rest of the honest list
Two things this page will not do. It will not give you a decibel figure, because none is published and inventing one would be worthless. And it will not tell you this helmet is light, because it is not — 1750 g is what a fully equipped modular weighs.
What it will tell you is that the acoustic engineering is real and independently remarked upon, and that the ventilation was the thing traded to achieve it.
When something wears out
Plan visors as a pair rather than one at a time: a clear CNS-3C for winter and night riding, something tinted for summer, swapped in under a minute by the tool-free quick-change mechanism. The one thing that does not migrate between them is the Pinlock lens, which is pinned to a single screen.
🔵 Both screens must be CNS-3C. The Neotec II generation is incompatible.
