DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
White is the one finish in the Neotec 3 range that does something measurable beyond looking good: at dusk, in rain and against a dark treeline, it is the part of a motorcycle a driver's eye finds first. On a modular helmet the chin bar carries that outline directly forward.
Five stars from SHARP — and the number behind them
Five stars from SHARP, February 2024, ECE 22.06 — and one number underneath it that matters more on a modular helmet than the star count does: the chin bar remained fully locked in 93 % of impacts.
That figure is the single most useful thing SHARP publishes about a flip-up, because a chin bar that releases takes the chin protection with it. Ninety-three per cent is at the top of what modular helmets achieve; several well-regarded ones sit below half.
About the gloss white finish
There are two practical arguments for white on a touring helmet and one against. In its favour: conspicuity, which is not a marketing claim but the reason emergency services paint vehicles the way they do; and heat, because a white shell in direct summer sun stays measurably cooler to the touch than a dark one — worth something on a helmet you will wear through an August afternoon in traffic. Against it: white shows every mark. There is nothing in a white gloss surface for a scuff to disappear into, and the leading edge of the chin bar collects fuel-station grime that a dark helmet simply absorbs visually. The compensation is that damage announces itself — a crack shows on white the day it happens rather than being found months later during a clean.
P and J, and what ECE 22.06 actually tests
ECE 22.06 is not a relabelled 22.05. Impact points went from five to as many as eighteen, a second lower test speed was added, and an oblique impact against a slanted abrasive anvil was introduced to put a ceiling on rotational acceleration — the injury mechanism European regulation had ignored for decades.
The Neotec 3 also carries the dual P/J approval, tested closed and again open.
AIM, three shells, and the steel that holds the chin bar
Three shell sizes across six helmet sizes is the specification worth understanding, because it decides weight and proportion at both ends of the range. On a single-shell helmet the smallest size wears a mid-size shell's worth of polystyrene: it looks oversized and weighs more than the size needs.
Here the split runs XS–M, L, and XL–XXL, in an AIM shell — fibreglass and organic fibre in resin — over a multi-density EPS core.
CNS-3C and QSV-2 — and the Neotec II trap
🔵 The single most useful thing to know before you order a spare screen: this helmet takes the CNS-3C, not the CNS-3. The visor from the Neotec II looks similar and will not fit, and it is one of the most frequent mis-purchases in the Shoei parts catalogue.
The CNS-3C itself is quick-change, centrally latched, angled at its top edge against draught, and drilled for the Pinlock EVO DKS301 lens supplied with the helmet.
Quiet by design, and what that costs in airflow
The acoustic work on this shell is structural rather than cosmetic. The chin bar does not swing on a simple arc; it follows an eccentric path so that the panel gaps close progressively as it shuts, and a gap that is closed is a gap that cannot whistle. The chin-to-shell transition is smoothed for the same reason.
🔵 What that costs is airflow. Shoei chose quiet over cool, and on a hot day in traffic you will notice which way that decision went.
Noise Isolator, glasses, and talking to the helmet
Cheek pads extended towards the back of the head are the specific feature doing most of the acoustic work in here, together with the removable ear pads. They close the route by which turbulence from beneath the shell reaches your ears — which is where most of the noise a rider hears actually arrives from.
Everything is removable and washable, and pad thicknesses are available separately for fine-tuning the fit.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
The comparison most buyers are actually making is against the GT-Air3, and it is a clean one. Both are Shoei's sport-touring line, both carry an integrated sun visor, both are built around quietness. The GT-Air3 is a full-face; this is the modular version of the same idea, at seventy euros more.
If you never open a helmet at a fuel stop, the full-face is the better buy. If you do, this is why the format exists.

1750 grams, and the rest of the honest list
1750 grams, and it is worth converting that into something useful. A head weighs roughly five kilos; this adds better than a third again, and your neck stabilises the total every time the road moves. On a modular with an integrated sun visor and a steel chin-bar mechanism there is no version of this helmet that weighs 1500 g.
Alongside it: ventilation tuned for quiet rather than volume, and a raised chin bar that drags above about 30 km/h.
When something wears out
The interior is what decides how long the helmet lasts you, and it is the part riders most often misdiagnose. Pad foam compresses and breaks down chemically from sweat; as it does the fit loosens, the helmet begins to move on the head, and it lets in noise that was not there before. The natural conclusion is that the helmet is finished. Usually it needs pads.
Cheek and centre pads are available separately, in more than one thickness.
