DescriptionThe whole story▼
Pro Sand Matt is the X.LIFECOUNTRY for riders who want the carbon shell without anyone noticing it. Nexx paints the X-PRO Carbon helmet in a single, flat desert-sand colour, adds black trim on the peak, the chin vents and the lower edge, and leaves it at that: no graphic, no visible weave, only a small Nexx script on the side. It suits a bike in khaki luggage and dusty gear better than anything else in the range.
What you get under the paint is the full carbon specification of the X.LIFECOUNTRY — flip-up chin bar homologated P/J, removable off-road peak, internal sun visor, two visors and a fitted anti-fog lens. Since this version is chosen for practical reasons, we lead with the equipment and finish with the care advice and the trade-offs.
About the Pro Sand Matt finish
Sand is a warm, greyish beige, applied as a solid coat with a matt clear finish. On a dusty trail it simply disappears into the dirt: a film of fine powder that would look grubby on gloss black barely shows here, which is exactly why the colour has become a favourite for adventure kit. The black peak, chin vents and lower trim frame the shell and hide the scuffs those parts collect.
Matt sand has its own quirks over the years. Oily marks from fingers and sunscreen show as darker patches until washed off, and the surface must never be polished or waxed, which would leave permanent shiny spots. Use lukewarm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft cloth. A light colour also warms up less in strong sun than a black helmet, a small but welcome bonus on hot days.
Why paint over carbon
The question is fair: why buy a carbon shell and then cover it? Because the material is what reduces weight and the colour is what you see. Pro Sand gives you the lighter X-PRO Carbon construction — the same shell used under Zero Pro, Terra, Evolander and Gravix — with a single solid colour on top. The fibreglass-based X-Matrix2 versions (Plain, Westbound) are heavier; the carbon decors among themselves differ only in appearance. Pro Sand is the plainest way to get the lighter shell.
Equipment for long trips
Two visors come in the box, both on the tool-free X-SWIFT system: a clear one with a Pinlock 120 XLT MaxVision anti-fog lens already in place and a second one tinted Smoke 80 % for desert glare. An internal sun visor drops down with a slider for tunnels and forest sections. The off-road peak is adjustable and removable, with a screwless extensor to add length. Removable top and side camera mounts, a wind deflector and a breath guard complete the set.
X-Sensus Vision
The eye port is about 15 % larger than the regulation requires, a decision Nexx calls X-Sensus Vision. On a peaked helmet this is noticeable when standing on the pegs and looking ahead over rough ground, and on the road it widens the view into mirrors and junctions. The interior has space for spectacle arms.
Shell sizes and fit
X-PRO Carbon, a 3K aerospace-grade weave, is made in two outer shells: XS to L and XL to XXXL. Seven helmet sizes are covered by those two shells, with the EPS liner and padding adapting each size. That is coarser than a three-shell range, so small heads in each band carry a little more outer volume. Measure carefully and, near the L/XL step, try both.
The weight, honestly
Nexx quotes around 1,650 g for the carbon shell, within 50 g, and explicitly without accessories. A complete helmet with peak, sun visor, hinge parts and Pinlock lens is heavier on the scale. The bigger effect on a long day, though, is the peak catching air ahead of your face. Removing it for motorway transfers is the most direct way to save your neck.
Airflow
Two closable intakes and two exhausts drive the ventilation, and the Mid Airflow Chamber guides air between the shell and the liner instead of blasting it straight at the scalp. An Air Cumbs chamber sits in the crown. On slow, hot sections the simplest cooling is to ride with the chin bar raised.
Wind noise and the Silent Travel Seal
A double rubber seal, which Nexx calls the Silent Travel Seal, closes the gaps around the visor and the chin-bar joint. Vortex generators at the chin and noise-reducing cheek pads and neck roll support it. We give no decibel figure because we have no verified one. Adventure helmets with a peak tend to be louder at speed than road helmets; plan on earplugs.
Chin bar and homologations
Thanks to its ECE 22-06 P/J approval, the helmet may be worn open or closed on the road. The Super Locker pivot holds the chin bar in place when raised, an easy-access button releases it, and an anti-opening catch prevents accidental unlocking; locking parts are made in stainless steel and aluminium. A metal micrometric buckle closes the strap. DOT FMVSS 218, CCC GB811:2022 and NBR7471:2015 complete the list of approvals. ECE 22.06 has applied to all new helmets sold in the EU since January 2024 and tests more impact points and speeds than 22.05, plus oblique impacts and fitted accessories. There is no SHARP rating.
Care, spare parts and interior
The Morpho-Fit lining is 3D-shaped and covered in moisture-wicking X-Mart Dry fabric; cheek pads and crown liner come out for washing, and the cheek pads use the F.R.S. emergency release. Replacement visors in clear and Smoke 80 %, Pinlock lenses, anti-noise cheek pads, the neck roll, the crown liner and the camera support are all available for this model. The shell is ready for the X-COM3 Bluetooth 5 intercom, and the 2027 Nexx description also mentions the X-COM3 PRO. Night-vision reflectors sit at the front, sides and rear.
Trade-offs
Flip-up mechanism plus peak make this a heavy helmet type, carbon or not. If you never ride off tarmac, the peakless X.LIFETOUR is the more sensible choice. Two outer shells give a less precise external fit than ranges with more shells. Matt sand forgives dust but not grease, and it cannot be polished. Intercom and camera are not supplied, only the preparation and mounts.

“A flip front with a peak and dual homologation, so it is legal open or closed. Bennetts are blunt about the weakness: the ventilation is disappointing for an adventure helmet, and that is the axis this category weighs most heavily after the off-road kit.”
