How to measure your helmet size correctly: To find the right helmet size, measure your head circumference with a flexible tape measure.
It is important that the tape measure runs around the widest part of the head – only then will you get a correct result.
Place the tape measure at the front, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and run it along the sides above the ears.
At the back, the tape must run over the largest part of the back of the head (not too low on the neck). The tape may run slightly at an angle – what matters is that it sits all the way around the largest points of the head.
Make sure the tape measure sits snugly but does not dig in. Measure 2–3 times for the most accurate result. You can then compare the measured value in centimetres (cm) with our size chart.
Tips for an accurate result
- Keep hair flat (e.g. do not measure over a voluminous hairstyle)
- Keep the tape horizontal, i.e. along the largest circumference
- Do not measure too loosely
- For values between two sizes:
→ usually choose the larger size (depending on helmet model / fit)
Important note on fit
The right helmet should fit firmly without causing uncomfortable pressure points.
A new helmet may feel a little tighter at first, as the inner lining adapts slightly over time.

The MT Thunder 4 R SV is the full-face helmet MT built for real, everyday riding: a genuine balance of safety, comfort and function at a price that leaves budget for the rest of your kit. It is the evolution of the hugely popular Thunder 4 SV, with reworked air intakes, a revised spoiler and an improved visor-opening action — and, unlike many rivals at this price, it now ships with a Pinlock Max Vision anti-fog insert as standard. Finished in a contemporary matt grey, it brings premium features — an integrated sun visor, tool-free MT-QVSS visor changes and intercom preparation — without the premium price tag.
Key Features
- ECE 22.06 certified — tested to the current European safety standard
- HIRP (High Impact Resistant Polymer) shell — engineered for a strong impact-resistance-to-weight ratio at approx. 1,500 g
- Integrated drop-down sun visor — glare protection in a fraction of a second, no separate sunglasses needed
- MT-V-28C main visor with MT-QVSS Quick Visor Swap System — change visors in seconds without tools, plus a lock against unintended opening
- Pinlock DKS435 (Max Vision) anti-fog insert included as standard
- Micrometric ratchet retention — quick, precise, glove-friendly
- Fully removable, washable interior lining
- Intercom-ready — prepared for the MT-B01 (MT Rider Sync) system, with dedicated speaker pockets
- Aerodynamic shell with revised spoiler and a nose deflector (included)
Shell and Safety
The Thunder 4 R SV is built around an HIRP (High Impact Resistant Polymer) shell — a high-strength thermoplastic MT tunes for a strong impact-resistance-to-weight ratio, keeping the helmet to roughly 1,500 g. It carries full ECE 22.06 homologation, the current European standard, which tests the helmet at more impact points and speeds than the previous 22.05 and adds a rotational-impact assessment. Two shell sizes keep the proportions right across the size range rather than fitting one large shell to every head.
Visor, MT-QVSS and Pinlock
The MT-V-28C main visor is wide and optically clear, and MT's MT-QVSS (Quick Visor Swap System) — the mechanism that made MT's name in this class — lets you remove and refit it in seconds without tools. A visor lock holds it closed at speed and stops it lifting unintentionally. The visor is Pinlock Max Vision ready and, importantly for a helmet at this price, the Pinlock DKS435 anti-fog insert is included in the box — so you have fog-free vision from day one instead of paying extra for it.
Integrated Sun Visor
A drop-down internal sun visor deploys with a single slider and retracts fully into the shell when you do not need it — glare protection the moment the sun comes out, with no stopping to swap to a tinted visor or reach for sunglasses. It is one of the features that lifts the Thunder 4 R SV clear of typical entry-level full-face helmets.
An Honest Word on What This Helmet Is
The Thunder 4 R SV is a genuinely capable everyday full-face — but it is a value helmet, and it is worth being clear about where that shows. It is homologated to ECE 22.06 for road use; it is not a DOT- or FIM-approved race helmet, so it is not intended for the closed-circuit competition that requires those homologations. The HIRP shell is heavier than a premium fibre-composite or carbon lid (around 1,500 g versus roughly 1,300–1,450 g). And ventilation, while improved over the Thunder 4 SV, is where a sub-€200 helmet naturally sits behind flagships — effective for commuting and touring pace rather than track-day heat. None of this is a flaw at the price; it is simply the honest trade you make, and knowing it up front means fewer surprises.
Ventilation
The Thunder 4 R reworks the intakes and spoiler of the outgoing SV to move more air through the helmet. Forehead and chin inlets feed channels in the EPS that draw warm, humid air out through rear exhausts, keeping the visor clearer and the head cooler on the move. It is a meaningful step up from the previous generation; on a hot day at walking pace it will not match a top-tier touring helmet, but for daily riding and steady road speed the airflow does its job.
Comfort, Interior and Fit
Inside, the padding is shaped per size so each shell fits its intended head cleanly rather than being packed out with foam. The complete lining — crown, cheek pads and comfort padding — is removable and machine-washable, which matters on a helmet you will wear every day. The micrometric ratchet strap fastens quickly and precisely with gloves on and is easy to fine-tune from ride to ride. Dedicated speaker pockets are moulded into the lining so an intercom sits flush against your ears.
Intercom-Ready — MT Rider Sync
The Thunder 4 R SV is prepared for MT's own MT-B01 (MT Rider Sync) UCS-type communication system: the speaker pockets and cable routing are already in place, so fitting an intercom is straightforward and keeps a clean external profile. A nose/breath deflector is included to cut visor misting and reduce wind flow to the chin.
The Pure A2 matt grey finish
Pure A2 is a soft, contemporary matt grey — dark enough to stay clean-looking, light enough to lift an all-black bike. A quiet, design-led solid for riders who find plain black too obvious and white too bright.
Finding Your Size
The Thunder 4 R SV is available in XS to XXXL. Measure your head circumference with a soft tape about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, around the widest part of the skull, and compare it with the size chart linked on this page. If you fall between two sizes, choose the larger for everyday comfort.
Approved Use
The MT Thunder 4 R SV is a unisex full-face helmet homologated to ECE 22.06 and road-legal across ECE markets. It is designed for street, commuting and everyday sport-touring use.
