Revelant is the second graphic family and takes a harder-edged approach than Wind Tunnel. In deep blue it is the version that behaves most like a solid — the drawing is present but never the first thing you notice.

What this helmet is — and what changed for the R

🔵 Worth checking on any helmet at this price: which ECE revision it holds. A good number of budget full-face helmets are still sold against the superseded 22.05, which uses fewer impact points, lower speeds and no rotational assessment.

The Thunder 4 R SV is certified to ECE 22.06, the current standard.

About the Revelant C5 graphic

Deep blue is the most practical coloured finish on a commuting helmet and it is consistently under-chosen. Fine road film reads as a grey haze against black and as an obvious film against pale colours; against navy it largely disappears, which on a helmet washed occasionally rather than religiously matters over the whole ownership period. It also works with almost any jacket, which on a helmet worn with ordinary clothing rather than a full suit is a real consideration. 🔵 Conspicuity sits above the blacks and well below the neon B3 — worth a thought if your commute runs into the dark half of the year.

The SHARP stars that belong to a different Thunder

Buying a helmet on a rating that belongs to a different model is the most common mistake in this category, and MT's naming makes it easy here — four generations share the Thunder name.

🔵 Thunder / Thunder 3 = four SHARP stars. Thunder 4 R SV = no SHARP entry. There is no ADAC or Snell result either.

HIRP, two shells and ECE 22.06

🔵 A thermoplastic shell is not a lesser shell, it is a different manufacturing route — and at this price it is the only route that makes sense. What matters is the approval it holds, and this one holds the current European standard in full.

MT-QVSS, the visor lock and the Pinlock in the box

🔵 A note on tinted visors and the law. Fixed dark visors are not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries. On this helmet the question largely disappears — the internal sun visor drops behind a clear outer visor and retracts instantly.

The outer visor is the MT-V-28C, supplied clear with a Pinlock DKS435 lens.

The integrated sun visor

🔵 Keep the sun shield as clean as the outer visor. It is the surface closest to your eyes, easy to forget because it lives inside the shell, and a fingerprint on it is far more visible than one outside.

Clean it wet, never dry — it scratches as readily as the main visor.

Enlarged intakes and a revised spoiler

A nose deflector is supplied with the helmet, and it does more than it appears to: it redirects exhaled air downwards rather than up the inside of the visor, which is what stops the visor misting at a standstill.

🔵 Combined with the supplied Pinlock lens, that covers the two ways a visor fogs.

Interior, fit and retention

The parts that wear on any helmet are the ones you touch: the lining compresses, the cheek pads absorb sweat, and the chin strap area frays. All of it comes out on this helmet, and all of it washes.

🔵 Replacement padding is also the right answer to a helmet that has loosened with use.

Intercom preparation and speaker pockets

Speaker pockets are moulded into the lining rather than cut into the EPS, which means they do not compromise the impact liner — a distinction worth knowing, because some cheaper helmets achieve „intercom-ready" by hollowing out polystyrene.

Buying a Pure version rather than a graphic saves 13 € and changes nothing else — same HIRP shell, same MT-QVSS visor, same sun visor, same Pinlock lens in the box.

When something wears out

Genuine parts matter more on a helmet than on most things, because the visor and the retention system are part of what was certified to ECE 22.06. A pattern visor with different optical properties is not the helmet that was approved.
