DescriptionThe whole story

The matt Pure A1 is the same helmet with the shine taken out, and on a jet that gets carried, stacked and stored more than it gets polished, that is the practical choice.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

Riders choose an entry jet for reasons that are entirely practical: it comes off in a second at a shop door, glasses go on and off without a fight, and you can hear traffic properly.

🔵 What you give up is chin and jaw protection. There is no chin bar, and the open-face category under ECE 22.06 does not require one.

About the matt black finish

An entry-level jet lives a harder cosmetic life than any other helmet, because it is treated as a tool: carried by the edge, dropped in a top box, left under a seat, wiped with whatever is to hand. A flat finish absorbs that better than gloss — there is no clear coat for a scuff to catch in, so the low-level marking a scooter helmet accumulates simply does not read. Matt also suits the Street S's plain unbroken dome, showing the outline rather than drawing a highlight across it. 🔵 Two things to weigh. It is the least visible finish in the range on a helmet used where visibility matters most. And matt is washed rather than polished — abrasive polish leaves a permanent shiny patch, and dry dust shows more readily than it would on gloss. Against that, it is the finish that still looks tidy after two years of being carried, stacked and left under a scooter seat, which is more than can be said for a glossy shell at this price. Choose it if the helmet lives in a top box rather than on a shelf, and accept that you are trading away the one thing that matters most on an urban helmet: being seen. In flat November light a matt black jet is close to invisible against wet tarmac, and no amount of care changes that. If the helmet is for daylight errands, it is a fine choice; if it is for a year-round commute, spend the same money on the white.

The cheapest helmet MT makes — and what that means

A helmet that has survived nine years in a catalogue is not an accident. The Street S sells because the price-to-specification balance works for its intended rider: short journeys, small-displacement bikes, city speeds.

🔵 It is not a helmet for distance or speed, and MT does not present it as one.

What this helmet does not have

🔵 A generation trap worth knowing. The older „MT Street" — certified to the superseded ECE 22.05did have a removable liner. This is the Street S, a different generation on the current 22.06 standard, and MT lists no removable interior for it.

If you find a review praising the removable liner, check which helmet it describes.

HIRP, 1025 grams, ECE 22.06 and DOT

What a thermoplastic shell means in practice: it is injection-moulded rather than laid up by hand, which makes it cheaper to produce and heavier than a composite of equal strength. It also makes it very consistent, because the process is machine-controlled.

🔵 At 47 € it is the only construction that exists, and on a jet the weight penalty is negligible.

The long MT-V-15B visor

Look after the visor and it will outlast the helmet. Never wipe a dry visor — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against oncoming headlights at night.

🔵 Wet it first, every time. On a helmet at this price the visor is the component most worth protecting.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

What a micrometric closure gives you over a simple buckle is fine adjustment. You are not choosing between two holes; you are setting the strap to the millimetre and clicking to the same place every time.

🔵 On the cheapest helmet MT makes, that is a genuinely good specification.

Cleaning a helmet with a fixed liner

Helmets are consumables with a long life rather than permanent objects. MT, like every manufacturer, recommends replacement after around five years of use regardless of condition — and immediately after any real impact, because the EPS crushes once and does not recover.

🔵 On a helmet with a fixed liner, that five-year figure is more binding than usual.

Choosing the right size

🔵 On most helmets a fit that is close but not right can be corrected with thicker or thinner cheek pads. MT does not list a removable interior for the Street S, so that option is not available here.

Get the size right in the shop rather than planning to adjust it later.

Where it sits in MT's range

Within this model the price ladder is entirely paint. The Pure solids at 47 € and the two Runway graphics at 51 € share the same shell, the same visor and the same closure.

🔵 The cheapest Street S protects exactly as well as the most expensive.

When something wears out

Helmets are consumables with a long life rather than permanent objects. MT recommends replacement after around five years of use regardless of condition, and immediately after any real impact.

🔵 At 47 € that works out at under 10 € a year, which is a fair way to think about a helmet at this price.
