DescriptionThe whole story▼
Oblivion puts fluorescent yellow onto a matt black shell — the compromise between wanting to be seen and not wanting a fluorescent helmet, and the only finish here chosen for a measurable reason.
Four stars from SHARP — and this is the helmet they tested
🔵 Read a star rating as a comparison rather than a promise. 4 of 5 means the Advant X performed well against other helmets crashed the same way — not that it will protect you in one particular crash, which depends on speed, angle and what you hit.
🟢 It remains far better evidence than any manufacturer's own description.
A flip-up with P/J dual homologation
🟢 If you have only ever ridden full-faces, the case for a flip-up is not laziness. It is glasses, it is fuel stops, it is conversations, it is a helmet you leave on rather than take off and set down somewhere it can fall.
🔵 The Advant X's bar rotates fully to the rear and both positions are homologated.
HPFC composite, multi-density EPS — and only two shell sizes
ECE 22.06 is the current European schedule, mandatory for new sales in the EU since January 2024. It tests more impact points than 22.05, adds a second lower speed, and introduced an oblique test measuring rotational acceleration.
🔵 The Advant X carries it with P/J dual homologation.
About the Oblivion matt black hi-vis graphic
Fluorescent pigment does something ordinary paint cannot: it absorbs ultraviolet, which your eye cannot detect at all, and re-emits that energy at a visible wavelength, so the surface returns more visible light than falls on it. That is why it appears to glow rather than merely to be bright, and why it works hardest in the conditions that supply plenty of UV and almost no contrast — heavy overcast, dusk, rain, the grey afternoons a touring rider cannot plan around. 🔵 Two honest limits. As an accent on a black shell it gives you a bright mark rather than a bright object, which is meaningfully less effective at distance than a fully fluorescent helmet — the Nova hi-vis version here goes further. And fluorescent pigment fades under sustained UV over years, so store it in a garage rather than a window. The matt black base handles the handling marks a flip-up collects. If conspicuity is genuinely the deciding factor rather than a consideration, compare this directly against the Nova hi-vis version at the same price. That one carries fluorescent yellow across far more of the shell, which at the distance a driver actually makes the decision is the more effective of the two. This is the version for a rider who wants the benefit without the helmet announcing it.
Twin Visor, Pinlock 120 and a tinted spare
If you wear prescription glasses, an integrated shield is far more practical than prescription sunglasses or a tinted visor — it moves without removing anything, and it moves while you are riding.
🔵 Check it clears your frames when you try the helmet on. That is a fit question rather than a fault.
Chin and crown intakes, channelled EPS
A breath deflector is a small piece of foam and rubber that turns your exhaled air downwards before it reaches the visor. It costs nothing, weighs nothing, and makes a real difference to fogging.
🔵 One is fitted here as standard, alongside the Pinlock 120 XLT in the box.
Metal buckle and the Emergency Release System
🔵 A loose strap is the most common way a correctly-sized helmet fails to do its job, and it is entirely within your control. The buckle here adjusts in fine steps rather than between fixed holes.
Set the length bare-handed once, and the rest is one-handed for the life of the helmet.
Lining, comfort — and the X-Static this version does not have
🔵 The comfort assessment on this page is 4 of 5, and here is the reasoning: laser-cut removable lining, breath deflector, supplied Pinlock 120 and a tinted spare visor are all present — X-Static is not.
It is a construction judgement from the published specification, not a measurement.
Where it sits in LS2's range
Sixteen finishes, two prices, one specification. Choose on how you want to be seen rather than on what the surcharge might buy in capability — it buys artwork.
🔵 The six solids and the ten graphics are identical in every other respect.
Care and replacement parts
Helmets are consumables with a long life. LS2, like every manufacturer, advises replacement after roughly five years regardless of appearance — adhesives, foam and resin all change with time and ultraviolet.
🔵 Keep the purchase date somewhere you will find it.
In the box
- LS2 FF901 Advant X helmet — Oblivion, Matt black with hi-vis yellow (HPFC composite shell)
- Clear main visor, fitted, with tool-free quick release
- Pinlock® 120 MaxVision™ XLT anti-fog insert
- A complete second visor in a tint — 🔵 daylight use only in most European jurisdictions
- Integrated drop-down sun visor, fitted

Size guide
If you fall between two sizes, take the smaller one and let the padding settle. A helmet that slips on easily and feels immediately pleasant is usually one size too big.
🔵 Seven sizes, XS to 3XL, on two shells.

- Interior — removable, washable, breathable, hypoallergenic; laser-cut foam. 🔵 No X-Static® — LS2 lists it only for the Advant X Carbon
- 🔴 FIM homologation — none — a road helmet; no modular is FIM-eligible
- Serviceability — both visors, sun visor mechanism, cheek pads (several thicknesses), lining, vent covers, breath deflector
