DescriptionThe whole story▼
This is the most thorough application of fluorescent yellow in the range, and if being seen is genuinely what is deciding your purchase, it is the finish to choose out of all sixteen.
Four stars from SHARP — and this is the helmet they tested
🟢 4 stars of 5, on a helmet SHARP bought at retail and destroyed. That is a categorically different kind of evidence from a manufacturer's claim, and it is why the rating appears on this page at all.
🔵 It applies to the HPFC composite version at 1600 g — this one — and not to the carbon Advant X.
A flip-up with P/J dual homologation
🔵 One practical note on the mechanism: operate the release deliberately rather than snatching it. A chin bar swung hard through 180 degrees loads the hinge in a way it was not designed for, and the mechanism is the one part of a modular helmet that wears.
🟢 Both positions are covered by the P/J homologation.
HPFC composite, multi-density EPS — and only two shell sizes
Shell: HPFC composite, two sizes. Liner: multi-density EPS with moulded ventilation channels. Approval: ECE 22.06 P/J. Weight: about 1600 g.
🔵 That is the whole structural specification, and the two-shell split is the one part of it we would call a genuine limitation.
About the Nova hi-vis yellow graphic
The mechanism is worth understanding rather than taking on trust. Fluorescent pigment absorbs ultraviolet — invisible to you — and re-emits that energy at a visible wavelength, so the surface returns more visible light than lands on it. It cannot exceed the total energy arriving, but it converts energy you could not see into energy you can, which is why fluorescent yellow appears to glow on precisely the days it matters: heavy overcast, rain, dusk, the flat grey afternoons of a European autumn. It also sits close to the wavelength the eye is most sensitive to in daylight, which is why emergency services across the continent converged on it independently. 🔵 Two costs, stated honestly: it is the loudest finish here and not to every taste, and fluorescent pigment fades under sustained UV over years — garage rather than windowsill. Compared with the Oblivion matt black hi-vis at the same price, this is the more thorough application of the idea: Oblivion uses fluorescent yellow as an accent on black, which gives you a bright mark, while this covers enough of the shell to give you a bright object. At the distance a driver actually decides, that difference is larger than the photographs suggest.
Twin Visor, Pinlock 120 and a tinted spare
The mechanism is simple and that is a virtue: a slider, a pivot and a shield, with little to go wrong and replaceable parts if something does.
🟢 Behind it, a scratch- and UV-treated main visor with a tool-free quick release and a Pinlock 120 already fitted.
Chin and crown intakes, channelled EPS
🔵 We rate ventilation 4 of 5 from the construction: two intake paths, channelled multi-density EPS, an exhaust port and a breath deflector. It is a judgement from the specification LS2 publishes.
It is not a measurement, nobody has made one, and we would rather say so than present a guess as data.
Metal buckle and the Emergency Release System
🟢 A metal buckle, an emergency release and a P/J-approved chin bar together make this a well-specified modular. None of the three is universal at this price.
🔵 The one number we will not soften is the 63 % lock rate, which SHARP measured and published.
Lining, comfort — and the X-Static this version does not have
Laser cutting seals the foam face rather than crushing it, which means the padding keeps its shape across years of removal and refitting — and on a modular, that happens more often than on a full-face.
🔵 Cheek pads and the full lining are both replaceable.
Where it sits in LS2's range
🔵 What the Advant X is not: a competition helmet. It holds ECE 22.06 P/J for road use and no FIM homologation, and no modular helmet is FIM-eligible in any case.
🟢 For road and touring, the P/J approval is exactly the right specification.
Care and replacement parts
🔵 The one component that cannot be serviced is the one that actually protects you. A crushed multi-density EPS liner does not recover, and on a composite shell you will not see it.
After any real impact, replace the helmet rather than assessing it by eye.

Size guide
🔵 On a 1600 g helmet fit matters even more than usual: a correctly-sized shell puts the mass close to your head, which is felt as steadiness rather than as weight.
An oversized modular makes a heavy helmet feel heavier still.
