DescriptionThe whole story▼
Nardo grey is the finish for a rider who intends to use this helmet hard and does not intend to fuss over it. Of the sixteen here it is the one that will look best with the least attention.
Everything that is usually an extra
🔵 Count what you would otherwise buy separately. An anti-fog insert and a tinted visor are extra costs; a magnetic chin deflector is not usually offered at any price. All three are here as standard.
That is what the Storm III's price is actually buying, and it is worth doing the arithmetic before comparing it against a cheaper helmet.
1600 grams — the heaviest in the range, and why
Weight is the specification you stop noticing and your neck does not. A head weighs roughly five kilos; this helmet adds about a third again, and every input from the road multiplies the lot.
🔵 At 1600 g (±50 g) the Storm III is unremarkable for an hour and unmistakable at the end of a long day.
KPA shell, three shell sizes and ECE 22.06
🔵 What three shell sizes buy you: a small helmet that sits close to the head rather than ballooning, and a large one that is not wrapped around a shell never sized for it.
Single-shell helmets make up the difference in foam thickness, which changes both the fit and the proportions at the ends of the range.
No independent safety rating — and nothing borrowed from a sibling
🔵 Untested is not the same as poor. SHARP rates a limited number of helmets each year and most models on sale have never appeared on it in either direction.
What we will not do is imply a result by association. LS2's Stream II and Strobe II both hold four stars; the Storm III has never been tested.
About the solid Nardo grey finish
How dirty a helmet looks has almost nothing to do with how dirty it is and almost everything to do with contrast, and a mid grey sits exactly where contrast is lowest. The fine grey film that a long motorway day deposits, dried rain spots, the dust that settles on anything stored in a garage — all of it is obvious against white, visible as a haze against black, and effectively invisible against Nardo. You find out how much was there when you wash it and look at the cloth. On a helmet built for distance, that property compounds: touring helmets get dirty faster and get washed less often than any other kind. There is a second and less obvious benefit. A mid-value object separates from dark tarmac considerably faster than a dark one, so this is meaningfully more visible than matt black while looking almost as restrained — you are not paying for discretion with conspicuity in the way you would with a black helmet. 🔵 It is also one of the three cheapest versions, sharing every specification with the slightly pricier graphics. Ordinary gloss care applies: wash wet, dry soft, and never dry-wipe.
Sun visor and the Pinlock in the box
🔵 The Pinlock is supplied, which is the inclusion that matters most and gets noticed least. An anti-fog insert works mechanically — a sealed pocket of air holding the inner surface above dew point — and nothing else reliably stops fogging in cold, wet, slow conditions.
„MaxVision" means the lens runs close to the visor edges, so the treated area covers most of what you look through.
Crown and chin intakes, channelled EPS
🔵 The distinction worth understanding: intakes and exhausts move air into and out of the shell, while channels moulded into the EPS move it across your scalp in between. Plenty of helmets have the first without the second.
The Storm III has both, plus a breath deflector.
Emergency release, closure and comfort
🔵 The emergency release is the feature you hope never matters. Removing a full-face from an unconscious rider is the moment most likely to move a damaged neck; pulling the cheek pads out first removes most of the interference before the shell moves at all.
Tabs sit at the base of each pad.
Where it sits in LS2's range
🔵 The comparison that matters most is with LS2's own FF808 Stream II: cheaper, 50 g lighter, and it holds 4 SHARP stars where the Storm III has no rating at all. What the Storm III adds is the supplied Pinlock, the magnetic deflector and the emergency release.
Care and replacement parts
🔵 Never clean a thermoplastic shell with solvent, petrol or alcohol. Thermoplastics are chemically attacked by all three, and the damage is invisible at first and structural afterwards.
Warm water and a soft cloth is the whole procedure.

Size guide
🔵 Three shells across eight sizes means the shell is scaled to the head rather than the padding making up the difference — which matters most at the ends of the range.

- Sizes — 2XS to 3XL (eight sizes)
- Sun visor — integrated drop-down shield, retracting fully into the shell
- 🟢 Anti-fog — Pinlock® 70 MaxVision™ insert SUPPLIED in the box — not a separate purchase, unlike LS2's FF820 Rapid III and FF808 Stream II
- Ventilation — large crown intake plus chin intake feeding channelled EPS, with rear exhausts (transparent elements in the covers) and a breath deflector. 🔵 Assessed from the published construction; no independent airflow measurement exists
