DescriptionThe whole story▼

Blue and red on the Dynamo geometry, with no black base underneath — which makes this the most saturated helmet in the range and one of the few here built entirely from colour rather than from colour over dark.

Everything that is usually an extra

If you are cross-shopping on price alone, the Storm III looks expensive against LS2's own range. Add a Pinlock insert and a sun visor to the cheaper models and most of the gap closes.

🔵 The remaining difference buys the magnetic deflector, the emergency release and the channelled ventilation.

1600 grams — the heaviest in the range, and why

🔵 A light helmet is also a steadier one at speed, in an indirect way: less mass means less buffeting when your head is pushed by turbulence, and less correction from your neck.

At 1600 g the Storm III asks a little more of you there than the lighter helmets in the range.

KPA shell, three shell sizes and ECE 22.06

🔵 The ECE plaque is riveted to the chin strap and is the only part of a helmet carrying a legal guarantee. On the Storm III it reads 22.06.

Check it on anything offered second-hand: 22.05 remains legal to wear but has not been sellable new in the EU since January 2024.

No independent safety rating — and nothing borrowed from a sibling

🔵 Model names are the trap. „Storm", „Stream" and „Strobe" are three different LS2 helmets, two of them rated and one not, and a search will happily mix them.

Take the model code with you: this is the FF818, and it has no entry.

About the Dynamo blue and red graphic

Removing the dark base changes more than it sounds like it should. On the grey and black versions of this graphic the angular elements are marks on a shell; here there is no neutral ground for them to sit on, so the whole helmet reads as coloured and the geometry becomes structure rather than decoration. It is a bolder object as a result, and a meaningfully more visible one — both blue and red sit well above black on the value scale, and there is no dark area for the eye to lose. Blue in particular is the most practical saturated colour available on a helmet: the grey film a long motorway day deposits reads as an obvious deposit against white and as a haze against black, and against a deep blue it largely disappears between washes. On a touring helmet that gets dirty faster than it gets cleaned, that is worth something. 🔵 The red is the UV-sensitive element, as it is on every helmet, so store this one out of prolonged direct sun. Wash it wet, dry it with a soft cloth, and never dry-wipe a gloss surface — that is what puts fine swirl marks into a clear coat.

Sun visor and the Pinlock in the box

🔵 Fitting an anti-fog insert changes the visor slightly: a faint line at the lens edge, and occasionally a rainbow in the sealed pocket in certain light. Both are normal and both are worth it.

The Storm III's Pinlock 70 MaxVision is in the box rather than sold separately.

Crown and chin intakes, channelled EPS

🔵 A breath deflector is a small piece of foam and rubber that turns your exhaled air downwards before it reaches the visor. It costs nothing, weighs nothing, and makes a real difference to fogging.

One is fitted here, alongside the magnetic chin curtain.

Emergency release, closure and comfort

Comfort over four hours is decided by pressure distribution rather than softness. A lining that feels plush in the first minute often lacks support and produces a hot spot later.

🔵 The Storm III's is removable and its cheek pads are replaceable in other thicknesses, so a pressure point is usually fixable rather than fatal.

Where it sits in LS2's range

Choose the finish on how you want to be seen rather than on what the small surcharge might buy in capability. It buys artwork, and nothing else.

🔵 The three solids and the thirteen graphics are identical in every specification.

Care and replacement parts

Vent covers, the breath deflector and the sun visor mechanism are all replaceable, which matters on parts you will operate several thousand times.

🔵 Nothing on this helmet that moves is sealed into the shell.

In the box

  • LS2 FF818 Storm III helmet — Dynamo, Blue and red (KPA shell)
  • Clear outer visor, fitted
  • Integrated drop-down sun visor, fitted
  • Pinlock® 70 MaxVision™ anti-fog insert — supplied, not a separate purchase
  • Magnetic chin wind deflector, fitted and removable
  • Breath deflector, fitted
  • 🔵 No intercom — the helmet is prepared for a Bluetooth system, which is a separate purchase

Size guide

Head shapes vary more than sizes do, and the difference is felt rather than measured. Long-oval heads press front and back; round heads press at the temples.

🔵 Ten minutes with the helmet on tells you which is happening.

  • 🔴 Safety rating — none. SHARP's LS2 brand list carries the Strobe2, FF325 Strobe, Stream 2 and FF320 Stream but no Storm or Storm III; Certimoov has no entry either. Nothing is transferred from a sibling model — a rating belongs to the helmet that was crashed
  • Shell — KPA injection-moulded thermoplastic; three shell sizes (2XS–S / M–L / XL–3XL)
  • 🔴 Weight — approx. 1600 g (±50 g) — the heaviest helmet in LS2's road range. The sun visor mechanism, the emergency release and the second screen are what it is spent on
  • Sizes — 2XS to 3XL (eight sizes)
  • Sun visor — integrated drop-down shield, retracting fully into the shell
  • 🟢 Anti-fog — Pinlock® 70 MaxVision™ insert SUPPLIED in the box — not a separate purchase, unlike LS2's FF820 Rapid III and FF808 Stream II
  • Ventilation — large crown intake plus chin intake feeding channelled EPS, with rear exhausts (transparent elements in the covers) and a breath deflector. 🔵 Assessed from the published construction; no independent airflow measurement exists
  • 🔴 Wind noise — left unrated — no independent measurement is published for this model
  • Retention — ratchet buckle with emergency release — tabs allowing responders to withdraw the cheek pads before the helmet is moved
  • Chin curtain — magnetic — refits with one gloved hand; fully removable
  • Interior — fully removable and washable; cheek pads available in several thicknesses
  • Communication — prepared for Bluetooth intercom — no system supplied
  • 🔴 FIM homologation — none — a road helmet, not eligible for FIM-sanctioned competition
