DescriptionThe whole story▼
On a helmet carrying this much hardware, the plain finish is the one that lets the equipment do the talking. Gloss white is also, incidentally, the version that works hardest on the road.
Everything that is usually an extra
The Storm III's argument is the equipment list, and specifically the parts of it that are normally accessories. A Pinlock® 70 MaxVision™ insert is supplied in the box, there is an integrated sun visor, the chin wind deflector is magnetic, and the ratchet closure carries an emergency release.
🔵 On LS2's own FF820 Rapid III and FF808 Stream II the Pinlock is a separate purchase and the Rapid III has no sun visor at all.
1600 grams — the heaviest in the range, and why
🔵 1600 g makes this the heaviest helmet in LS2's road range, and we are not going to present that as anything other than what it is. Compare it against the FF820 Rapid III at 1350 g and the difference is 250 g.
What you get for it: the sun visor mechanism, the supplied Pinlock, the emergency release and the magnetic deflector.
KPA shell, three shell sizes and ECE 22.06
The shell is KPA, an injection-moulded thermoplastic, in three outer sizes covering eight helmet sizes from 2XS to 3XL.
🔵 Three shells is more than the single-shell helmets at this price and fewer than the six of LS2's FF811 Vector II. It is a real specification rather than a rounded one.
No independent safety rating — and nothing borrowed from a sibling
🔵 The Storm III has no independent safety rating. SHARP's LS2 brand list carries the Strobe2, the FF325 Strobe, the Stream 2 and the FF320 Stream — but no Storm and no Storm III. Certimoov has nothing either.
Nothing is transferred here from a sibling model. A rating belongs to the helmet that was crashed.
About the solid gloss white finish
The Storm III is a distance helmet, and distance riding is where a pale shell pays back most reliably. Not because of any single dramatic moment, but because of the accumulation: every junction you pass in an afternoon is a driver deciding whether the gap is clear, and the object they are deciding about is at windscreen height and moving. A light-valued object resolves there sooner than a dark one, and the margin widens as the light flattens. Over a thousand kilometres that is a lot of small margins. The second benefit belongs to summer touring specifically. Stationary in traffic there is no airflow to help, and at 1600 g this is a helmet you will be wearing for long periods; a white shell reflects solar energy that a dark one turns into heat in the liner, and the difference is felt through an afternoon rather than in a moment. 🔵 The trade is upkeep. White shows fly strike and motorway film clearly, and a touring helmet accumulates both faster than a commuter's does. Gloss cleans faster than matt, which softens it, and on equipment you should be inspecting regularly a finish that shows dirt honestly is not purely a nuisance. Wash it wet and dry it with something clean and soft — never take a dry cloth to a gloss surface.
Sun visor and the Pinlock in the box
Two things handle vision here and both are included. The integrated sun visor drops on a slider and retracts fully into the shell; the Pinlock® 70 MaxVision™ anti-fog insert is supplied in the box.
🔵 On LS2's Rapid III and Stream II the insert is a separate purchase. Here it is not.
Crown and chin intakes, channelled EPS
Air enters through a large crown intake and a chin intake, crosses channelled EPS, and leaves through rear exhausts — a complete through-flow path rather than a set of holes in a shell.
🔵 The exhaust covers carry transparent elements, which is decoration rather than function, but well done at this price.
Emergency release, closure and comfort
Retention is a ratchet buckle with an emergency release. The ratchet fastens one-handed in gloves and returns to the same tension every time; the release lets responders withdraw the cheek pads before the helmet is moved.
🔵 The second of those is rare at this price and is the more important of the two.
Where it sits in LS2's range
The Storm III is the fully equipped helmet in LS2's thermoplastic range: everything fitted, everything supplied, and the heaviest of them at 1600 g.
🔵 Within this model the price ladder is entirely paint. The three plain finishes and the slightly pricier thirteen graphics share one shell and one equipment list.
Care and replacement parts
The parts that wear are all replaceable: visors, the internal sun visor, cheek pads in several thicknesses, the complete lining, the magnetic chin deflector, the breath deflector and the vent covers.
🔵 The EPS liner is not among them. It crushes once and does not recover.
