DescriptionThe whole story▼
Black/Orange: the ADV 7.5 kit for riders who want to be noticed
Bright orange on a dark base is one of the oldest tricks for standing out against tarmac and forest alike, and this ADV 7.5 kit uses it well. You receive a full adventure helmet with a peak, a clear anti-scratch visor and a Leatt Velocity 2.5 goggle in the box, approved under ECE 22.06 and DOT. It is the entry point to Leatt's adventure helmets, yet it carries the same rotational protection system as the more expensive models above it.
Safety first: Turbines, cheek pad release and double-D
Three pieces of safety hardware are built into every ADV 7.5. First, Leatt's 360° Turbine Technology: flexible elements inside the liner that deform in an oblique impact and reduce the rotational forces reaching the brain. Leatt states figures of up to 30 percent lower concussion-level forces and up to 40 percent lower rotational acceleration, based on its own lab work. Second, an emergency cheek pad removal system so that helpers can free the pads before taking the helmet off an injured rider. Third, a double-D ring retention strap made from stainless steel parts, a simple closure that is easy to check by eye.
About the Black/Orange finish
The graphic splits the helmet into gloss black and dark charcoal panels, then cuts a wide orange band along the lower shell that kicks upward behind the ear in a sharp diagonal. The Leatt lettering on the chin and on the side repeats the orange, and thin white pinstripes separate the colour fields. Viewed from the side, the orange catches the eye first, which is exactly the point: the colour sits low and to the rear, where drivers glancing in a mirror see it. A glossy surface wipes clean easily after a muddy day, although it shows fine swirl marks over time; a dedicated helmet cleaner helps.
Orange also pairs naturally with a lot of adventure motorcycles, many of which wear orange plastics or frames, so the helmet tends to look like part of the bike rather than an afterthought.
How ECE 22.06 tests a helmet like this
ECE 22.06 is the standard every new helmet sold in Europe must meet since January 2024. Compared with 22.05 there are eighteen possible impact sites instead of five, impacts at several speeds, and a new oblique impact on an abrasive surface to measure rotation, judged with a brain-injury criterion. Visors and accessories are tested mounted on the helmet. In the United States the DOT approval covers FMVSS 218.
Visor, Pinlock and spare lenses
The visor in the box is clear with an anti-scratch coating and detaches without tools. It is prepared for a Pinlock anti-fog insert, but no insert is supplied in this kit; a few data sheets claim otherwise, and Leatt's own product page does not. For bright conditions Leatt lists photochromic, Iriz Silver mirror and smoke visors as separate purchases. When the visor is off, the supplied hinge covers close the mechanism.
The Leatt adventure line-up compared
| Model | Shell | Weight (Leatt) | Visors in the box | Pinlock lens | Goggle in the kit | Strap |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ADV 7.5 | Injected polymer compound, 3 shell sizes | No size-specific figure published | Clear, anti-scratch | Visor is Pinlock-ready, no lens supplied | Velocity 2.5 | Double-D |
| ADV 8.5 | Three-layer composite (fibreglass), 3 shell sizes | 1,575 g ± 50 g (M/L) | Photochromic + clear | 120 XLT MaxVision included | Velocity 4.5 | Double-D |
| ADV 9.5 | Six-layer carbon matrix, 3 shell sizes | 1,490 g ± 50 g (M/L) | Photochromic + clear | 120 XLT MaxVision included | Velocity 4.5 Iriz | Fidlock magnetic |
Same Turbines, same four-way concept, same wide eye port across the range. The differences are in shell material, visor package and goggle.
What we know about weight
Weight is the figure most buyers ask about first, and the one we can say least about here. Leatt publishes 1,575 g for the 8.5 and 1,490 g for the 9.5, both in M/L. For the 7.5 there is no size-specific figure from Leatt, and we have not found an independent weighing. An injected polymer shell is usually somewhat heavier than glass fibre or carbon, so expect the 7.5 to sit above its two siblings rather than below. Over a long day, every extra 100 g at the end of your neck adds up, which is one honest reason to look at the 8.5 or 9.5.
A typical touring day with this kit could look like this: visor down and vents closed for the cold motorway stretch in the morning, then visor off, hinge covers in, goggle on for the dusty forest road at noon, and the visor back on for the ride home in the evening. That flexibility is what you are buying with the 7.5, more than any single number on a spec sheet. Throw the carry bag in a pannier and you are covered for the night stop too.
Intercom and electronics
Leatt describes the 7.5 as compatible with aftermarket communication systems. The cheek pad area offers room for speakers, and the shell side takes a clamp or adhesive mount. Check your unit's speaker diameter before buying.
Route cables under the cheek pad rather than across the EPS, and leave the emergency release tabs free so they can still be pulled.
Getting the size right
Six sizes, XS to XXL, share three outer shells. Head circumference is measured around the widest part of the head, just above the eyebrows and ears.
Wear the helmet for twenty minutes indoors before your first ride. It should sit level, the brow pad close above your eyebrows, and it should not rotate when you shake your head with the strap closed. Pressure on the forehead points to a head shape that does not match; light, even pressure on the cheeks is normal and eases with use.
| Size | Head circumference | Leatt article no. |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 53-54 cm | 1026001600 |
| S | 55-56 cm | 1026001601 |
| M | 57-58 cm | 1026001602 |
| L | 59-60 cm | 1026001603 |
| XL | 61-62 cm | 1026001604 |
| XXL | 63-64 cm | 1026001605 |
Parts and replacement
Leatt keeps spare parts for its helmets and offers a three-year crash replacement programme. Visors, peaks and pads can be replaced individually, which matters on a helmet that spends time in the dirt.
Limits you should know about
No Pinlock lens included. No internal sun visor listed by Leatt. No published weight per size. No independent test of this model yet. The noise level is not measured either; the shell was wind-tunnel shaped and the chin curtain helps, but plan for earplugs on fast roads.
