DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Spectrum layout in black, titanium and blue — the same geometry as the red version in a palette chosen for restraint rather than for contrast, and the more grown-up of the two.
Four stars from SHARP — and this is the helmet they tested
🔵 What the star rating does not capture: the chin-bar lock rate. SHARP publishes it separately, and for the Advant X it is 63 % — the proportion of impacts in which the bar remained fully locked.
🟢 The P/J homologation is why that is a manageable number rather than an alarming one.
A flip-up with P/J dual homologation
The bar folds to the rear rather than sitting proud, which also means the helmet stows flat and does not rock on a table when you set it down open.
🟢 More importantly it stays out of the wind at speed, which is the difference between an open position you use and one you do not.
HPFC composite, multi-density EPS — and only two shell sizes
Two shells, seven sizes, one specification: every finish on this page uses the identical HPFC shell, the identical liner and the identical equipment, plain or graphic.
🔵 The difference between the two prices is paint.
About the Spectrum black, titanium and blue graphic
Swapping red for blue and white for titanium narrows the value range of the whole graphic, which changes what it does at distance: the red version reads as a decorated helmet from fifty metres, this one reads as a dark helmet with structure in it. Whether that is better depends entirely on what you want from the object. What it gains is durability of appearance — titanium and navy are the two values at which road film shows least, and a touring helmet accumulates a great deal of it. 🔵 What it gives up is some conspicuity: the white in the red version is doing real work that titanium does only partially. Both cost the same and both are the same helmet underneath, with the same SHARP result and the same equipment. If your riding is mostly daylight and dry, this is the more considered-looking of the two. Worth comparing against the Metryk finish at the same price, which is also built around titanium and also avoids a second colour doing the shouting. Metryk is fully tonal and the more restrained of the two; this keeps a blue element that gives the eye something to fix on. Both hide road film about as well as anything here, and both are matt-adjacent in character rather than showy.
Twin Visor, Pinlock 120 and a tinted spare
An anti-fog insert works mechanically: it sits slightly proud of the visor with a sealed pocket of air between the two, holding the inner surface above dew point.
🔵 Sprays and coatings need reapplying and fail exactly when humidity is highest. The Pinlock 120 XLT is supplied here.
Chin and crown intakes, channelled EPS
The vent covers are inside the ECE 22.06 approval, because the current standard tests a helmet with everything fitted that will be sold on it. They open and close by hand and work in gloves.
🔵 No independent airflow figure exists for this model.
Metal buckle and the Emergency Release System
Emergency responders are trained to look for cheek-pad release tabs. On the Advant X they are there, at the base of each pad, and they are the reason a bulky modular helmet can come off cleanly.
🔵 Retention is a micrometric metal buckle.
Lining, comfort — and the X-Static this version does not have
🔵 On a modular helmet the lining takes more handling than on a full-face, because the chin bar goes up and down and the padding around the jaw moves with it.
Laser-cut foam holds up to that better than die-cut does, and the whole interior is replaceable.
Where it sits in LS2's range
A modular is heavier than a full-face and heavier than a jet, and buys versatility with that weight. On a touring helmet that is usually the right purchase, and on a commuter it often is not.
🔵 The Advant X weighs 1600 g and is homologated P/J in both positions.
Care and replacement parts
Cheek pads in other thicknesses are the most useful spare available and the least often bought. A fit that has loosened over two seasons is usually corrected with thicker pads rather than a new helmet.
🔵 Crown pad, cheek pads and the complete lining are all listed separately.
