DescriptionThe whole story▼
Nardo grey is the finish for a rider who intends to use this helmet properly rather than admire it. A flip-up gets handled more than any other kind of helmet, and this is the one that shows it least.
Four stars from SHARP — and this is the helmet they tested
🟢 The zone detail matters more than the star count. At 6.0 and 7.5 m/s every measured zone scored the maximum. At 8.5 m/s the crown, front and rear held 5 while the left and right sides dropped to 3.
🔵 A modular helmet is also assessed on its chin bar. SHARP recorded it fully locked in 63 % of impacts.
A flip-up with P/J dual homologation
🟢 P/J is the specification that matters most on a modular helmet, and plenty do not have it. „P" certifies the closed configuration as protective; „J" certifies the open one as a legal jet.
🔵 Without the J, riding with the bar up is not covered by the approval. The Advant X has both.
HPFC composite, multi-density EPS — and only two shell sizes
🔵 Two shell sizes is coarser than we would like, and coarser than LS2's own FF808, FF817 and FF820, which use three.
It is normal on modular helmets, because the chin-bar hinge, the locking mechanism and the sun-visor housing all have to be moulded into each shell size separately — but it is still two rather than three.
About the solid Nardo grey finish
Think about how a modular helmet is actually used: chin bar up at the fuel pump, down at the exit, up again at the border, down for the motorway. It is picked up, set down, rested on a tank bag and pushed onto a mirror far more often than a full-face is, and every one of those contacts leaves something. A mid grey sits precisely where contrast is lowest, so the marks and the road film simply do not register between washes — you discover how much was there when you look at the cloth. 🔵 There is a second dividend that gets overlooked: a mid-value object separates from dark tarmac considerably faster than a dark one, so this is meaningfully more visible than matt black while looking almost as restrained. And it is one of the six cheapest versions, sharing every specification with the pricier graphics. Wash wet, dry soft, never dry-wipe. Between the two greys here the difference is finish rather than colour: this is gloss, the Matt Titanium is flat. Gloss shows the geometry of the folded chin bar better and shows swirl marks if you dry-wipe it; matt hides handling marks and cannot be polished. Both hide road film equally well, and both cost the same.
Twin Visor, Pinlock 120 and a tinted spare
🟢 Pinlock 120 MaxVision XLT is the top anti-fog specification Pinlock makes — 120 is the highest performance grade, MaxVision the widest field of view, XLT the extended coverage.
🔵 Getting it in the box rather than on an accessory list is a real saving and it is the difference between a visor that fogs at traffic lights and one that does not.
Chin and crown intakes, channelled EPS
🔵 The ventilation assessment on this page is a construction judgement, not a measurement. Chin and crown intakes, channelled multi-density EPS, an exhaust port and a breath deflector is a complete arrangement on paper.
How much air it actually moves has not been measured independently, and we will not invent a figure.
Metal buckle and the Emergency Release System
🟢 The Emergency Release System matters more on a modular than on any other helmet type. Removing a full-face from an unconscious rider is the moment most likely to move a damaged neck, and a flip-up is bulkier to get off than a plain full-face.
🔵 Pulling the cheek pads first removes most of the interference before the shell moves at all.
Lining, comfort — and the X-Static this version does not have
🔵 What this helmet does not have: X-Static. The antibacterial silver fabric appears on LS2's comfort list for the carbon Advant X and not for this HPFC version.
It is a small difference — a treated lining slows the smell every used helmet develops — but it is a difference, and it is why the comfort assessment here is 4 of 5 rather than 5.
Where it sits in LS2's range
🔵 The comparison worth making, plainly. Advant X (this one): HPFC composite, 1600 g, 4 SHARP stars, no X-Static. Advant X Carbon: 6K carbon, 1550 g, X-Static, no rating, considerably more money.
🟢 If independent test data is what you are buying, this is the one that has it.
Care and replacement parts
🔵 Composite hides damage. A thermoplastic shell often shows a mark; a composite one can appear perfect over crushed EPS. If the helmet has taken a serious knock, replace it — the outside tells you nothing about the liner.
Everything else on it is serviceable.

Size guide
🔵 Two shells rather than three makes trying this helmet on more important than usual. Within each shell pair, padding does more of the fitting work, so the difference between an XS and an L is partly foam.
Measure, then try. Seven sizes, XS to 3XL.
