DescriptionThe whole story▼
Metryk is the tonal graphic in this range: a pattern worked in titanium on titanium, with no second colour anywhere. It is the most designed-looking helmet here and by some distance the least loud.
Four stars from SHARP — and this is the helmet they tested
🟢 SHARP's programme destroys a substantial number of helmets per model across five zones and three speeds. It is the closest thing European riders have to an independent verdict, and most helmets never appear on it at all.
🔵 The Advant X does: 4 stars of 5, July 2024, ECE 22.06, composite fibre, 1.6 kg.
A flip-up with P/J dual homologation
🔵 „Flip-up" and „modular" describe the same thing, and neither tells you whether the open position is legal. The specification that does is P/J.
🟢 The Advant X holds it, under ECE 22.06 — the current schedule, which tests more impact points at more speeds than 22.05 and adds a rotational assessment.
HPFC composite, multi-density EPS — and only two shell sizes
🔵 What „HPFC" describes is a composite formulation rather than a construction method. The construction is fibre and resin in two shell sizes over a channelled multi-density EPS liner.
SHARP recorded it as composite fibre at 1.6 kg, which is how the four-star result is attributed to this version rather than the carbon one.
About the Metryk matt titanium graphic
Monochrome graphics are considerably harder to execute than coloured ones, because every decision comes down to value rather than hue. Too little separation between the tones and the artwork vanishes into the shell; too much and it stops being tonal and becomes a two-colour helmet. This one holds the line, and the result has a property no plain helmet has: the pattern is clearly present in raking light and almost invisible in flat light, so the helmet changes as you walk around it. On a shell carrying as much visible mechanism as a modular does, that restraint is welcome. 🔵 Practically it inherits the best maintenance characteristics available here — mid greys hide road film better than any other value, and a matt finish absorbs the handling marks a flip-up collects. Matt is washed, never polished; abrasive compound leaves a permanent shiny scar. If you are choosing between this and the plain Matt Titanium, the surcharge buys a pattern that appears and disappears with the light and nothing else — the shell, the equipment and the four-star result are identical. If you want the low-maintenance grey without paying for artwork, the solid version is the cheaper answer to the same question.
Twin Visor, Pinlock 120 and a tinted spare
🟢 Grade 120 is Pinlock's premium specification rather than the mid-tier 70 fitted to LS2's cheaper models, and XLT extends the treated area further towards the edges of the visor.
🔵 Both it and the tinted spare visor are included at no extra cost.
Chin and crown intakes, channelled EPS
🟢 On a touring helmet, ventilation matters most in two places that have nothing to do with summer: keeping the visor clear on a cold morning, and keeping you awake on a long afternoon.
🔵 The chin intake handles the first; the crown intake and channelled EPS handle the second.
Metal buckle and the Emergency Release System
🔵 Three things on this helmet are worth checking before the first ride: the strap length, the chin-bar lock engaging positively, and the visor mechanism seating properly.
🟢 All three are user-serviceable, and the buckle is metal rather than plastic.
Lining, comfort — and the X-Static this version does not have
Replacement cheek pads are the most useful spare available and the least often bought. A fit that has loosened over two seasons is usually corrected with thicker pads rather than a new helmet.
🔵 The complete lining is available separately as well.
Where it sits in LS2's range
🟢 The single most useful line for a buyer comparing the two Advant X versions: the stars belong to this one. SHARP tested composite fibre at 1.6 kg, which is the HPFC helmet on this page.
🔵 The carbon version's pages carry no rating, deliberately.
Care and replacement parts
🔵 Wash the lining a few times a season in cool water and dry it away from direct heat. Sweat degrades foam, and the foam is what holds the helmet in position on your head.
The whole interior comes out by hand in about two minutes.
In the box
- LS2 FF901 Advant X helmet — Metryk, Matt titanium (HPFC composite shell)
- Clear main visor, fitted, with tool-free quick release
- Pinlock® 120 MaxVision™ XLT anti-fog insert
- A complete second visor in a tint — 🔵 daylight use only in most European jurisdictions
- Integrated drop-down sun visor, fitted
- Breath deflector, fitted
- 🔵 No intercom — the helmet is prepared for a Bluetooth system, which is a separate purchase
Size guide
🔵 On a modular, check the fit with the chin bar both closed and open. The padding around the jaw behaves differently in each position, and a helmet that is comfortable closed can pinch open.
Both positions are homologated, so both are worth trying.
