DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Nova layout with the values inverted — the same geometry on a dark base, which changes which part of the helmet your eye reads first and, with it, the character of the whole object.
Four stars from SHARP — and this is the helmet they tested
🟢 Independent result and legal approval are two different things, and the Advant X has both: ECE 22.06 with P/J dual homologation for road use, and 4 SHARP stars from a programme that publishes comparative crash data.
🔵 Neither covers fit, which is yours to get right.
A flip-up with P/J dual homologation
A 180-degree rotation asks more of the hinge than a forehead-resting design does, which is why the mechanism on this helmet is more substantial than on cheaper modulars.
🟢 Both positions are homologated under ECE 22.06 P/J, and SHARP rated the helmet 4 of 5.
HPFC composite, multi-density EPS — and only two shell sizes
Composite construction is why this helmet costs considerably more than a thermoplastic one. Laying fibre and resin is slower and more expensive than injection moulding, and it produces a stronger shell for the same mass.
🔵 The mass here is 1600 g, because a modular carries mechanism a full-face does not.
About the Nova black, red and blue graphic
On the white version the graphic is a set of bands across a bright field and you take in the whole shell at once. Here the black recedes and the coloured elements become the only things with weight, so the helmet reads as a dark shape with marks on it rather than as a decorated surface. It is the more restrained of the two by a wide margin. The light blue is doing more work than it appears to: it lifts the mid-tones enough that the graphic does not collapse into a black helmet with red on it, which is the trap most dark liveries fall into. 🔵 The practical trade is the one every dark finish makes on a touring helmet. It hides road film genuinely well — and a distance helmet collects a lot — while being measurably harder for a driver to resolve in poor light than the white version of the same graphic, at the same price. Between the three Nova finishes the choice is clear once you decide what matters. The white version is the one to see and be seen in; this is the compromise, with enough light-valued area to avoid reading as a plain dark helmet; and the black and red version is the most restrained of the three. All three cost the same and share the same shell, equipment and four-star rating.
Twin Visor, Pinlock 120 and a tinted spare
🔵 A practical limit on any integrated shield: because it lives between the shell and the liner, its lower edge and travel are fixed by design. On some faces it stops slightly higher than a tinted outer visor would.
Drop it while trying the helmet on, before deciding.
Chin and crown intakes, channelled EPS
🔵 If your riding is mostly urban, ventilation matters less than the brochures suggest — there is no airflow at a standstill regardless of design.
🟢 On a modular that is exactly when you open the chin bar instead, which is what the J half of the homologation is for.
Metal buckle and the Emergency Release System
Retention: micrometric metal buckle. Emergency access: cheek-pad release tabs. Chin bar: 180-degree rotation with a central lock, homologated P/J.
🟢 That is a complete safety-hardware specification for a modular helmet at this price.
Lining, comfort — and the X-Static this version does not have
Fit is decided by shape as much as by size, and the two-shell construction of this helmet makes trying it on more important than usual.
🔵 Keep it on for ten minutes and notice where it presses; that is information a tape measure cannot give you.
Where it sits in LS2's range
The sixteen finishes divide usefully: six plain solids at the lower price, dark graphics, and pale or fluorescent graphics. Only the last group has a measurable road advantage.
🔵 Every one is the same helmet, with the same rating and the same equipment.
Care and replacement parts
🔵 Five years is the standard replacement guidance and it is not arbitrary. Adhesives, EPS and resin all change with time, temperature and ultraviolet, whether or not the helmet has been used hard.
Note the date you bought it.
