The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Three Sprint Filter part numbers fit this motorcycle, and they differ from one another by a suffix. PM127S holds the woven P08 cloth, PM127S F1-85 the coarser racing weave, and PM127P14 — the element on this page — a non-woven mat. Housing, fit and fitting procedure are identical in all three cases. The letters after the number are the entire decision, and no amount of looking at the motorcycle will make it for you.
Key Features
- Non-woven medium, run dry, with no coating applied at any stage of its life
- A 14-micron rating where the woven alternative for this box is rated at 80
- Flow rated at 1,800 l/m²/sec, against 5,050 for that woven alternative
- Takes the original panel's place in the series airbox — no adapter, no mapping work
- Regenerated with an air line rather than reordered at each service
- Two years of warranty running from the date of sale
What the suffix decides
It decides which pair of numbers the motorcycle runs with. Finer retention and lower flow travel together in every filter medium ever made, because the same structure that stops smaller particles also gets in the way of more air. Sprint Filter does not resolve that; it offers the trade in defined steps and lets the owner place the bike on it. No step is an upgrade of the next, and a catalogue that ranked them would be selling a ladder that does not exist.
Why the model name cannot choose
A part number is assigned to an airbox, and an airbox serves whichever machines Ducati built around it — in this case eleven of them, from a Scrambler to a 1299. The name on the tank therefore identifies the housing and stops there. What picks the medium is the air the bike is ridden through: dusty summer roads, unsealed surfaces and daily traffic argue for this mat, clean tarmac and hard circuit use for the woven ones. None of the three makes a standard Streetfighter V2 any quicker; that is not what is being bought.
Care and cleaning
Servicing means an air line held to the clean face and worked outward until the mat releases nothing further. Two or three washes over its working life will not go amiss: warm water, a small amount of mild detergent, rinsed until the water leaves clear, then dried thoroughly in air alone. No heat source of any kind, no flame. PM127P14 is refitted dry, because there is nothing to put back on it. Sprint Filter's care document sits with the other files under Downloads.
