The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Nothing on the dashboard will ever report that an air filter is loading up. The V2 measures the air it is actually given and fuels against that measurement, so the mixture stays right as an element fills; what narrows quietly is how much air there is to be measured in the first place. A component whose decline produces no symptom has to be chosen by reasoning rather than by experience.
Key Features
- A single dry non-woven layer, free of oil when new and never dosed later
- Retention rated at 14 microns against the 80 microns of the woven P08
- Rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec, which is what that retention costs rather than a footnote to it
- Enters the standard housing where the factory panel came out; the calibration is left alone
- Cleared with compressed air and put back into service instead of thrown away
- Guaranteed for two years starting from the purchase date
There is no warning light for a filter
Injection systems are built to compensate, and they do it well. Restriction upstream of the sensor simply becomes less air, the fuelling follows it, and nothing anywhere in the system regards this as a fault: no code is stored, no lamp comes on, and the rider adapts to a change that arrives over months. The consequence is not dramatic on a healthy engine. It does mean the intake is the one maintenance item on a Panigale V2 that will never ask for attention by itself.
Choosing when the bike cannot answer
Without feedback the decision falls back to the specification and to where the motorcycle is ridden. Fourteen microns of retention against eighty is the argument for this mat; 1,800 l/m²/sec against 5,050 is the argument against it, and both are true at once. A V2 used on circuits and clean sealed roads is better matched to the standard weave, and this page is not going to pretend otherwise. What neither element does is add output — the airbox was never what held a standard V2 back.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air, applied to the inside face and directed away from the medium, is the normal service and takes minutes. Where the mat has taken on more than air will shift, wash it in tepid water with a mild washing-up liquid and rinse it until nothing more comes away, then leave it in moving air until it is dry right through. Nothing warm goes near it — a heater or an open flame destroys the medium permanently. PM127P14 goes back dry. The manufacturer's cleaning leaflet is attached under the Downloads tab.
