DescriptionThe whole story▼
The same Blank decor as the Pearly White version, in a flat matte black instead: no graphic, no gloss, just the moulded shape itself under a finish that shows fingerprints and handling marks less over months of daily use than gloss paint does.
An everyday helmet, described as one
Shark markets this helmet in plain, practical language — lightweight, clean lines, built for simplicity and everyday mobility — with no mention of aerodynamics or a spoiler anywhere in its own materials. That is a real difference from the Jet Cup sibling built and wind-tunnel tested around a rear fin: this shell is not that helmet with the graphic removed, it is a genuinely simpler design built for commuting and city riding rather than for a race-derived look. Shark's collection for this line groups it with older decors going back several seasons, alongside newer ones like this Blank Matte — a sign the Skwal Jet is treated as a steady catalogue staple rather than a helmet refreshed dramatically every year the way a flagship model might be.
Shell and closure
Lexan polycarbonate, the same material used through the rest of the 2027 Skwal range, closed with a micrometric buckle — adjustable in fine steps, released with one motion at a stop.
What ECE 22.06 actually tests
This helmet carries ECE 22.06 certification, mandatory in the EU for newly homologated helmets since January 2024 and meaningfully harder to earn than the 22.05 standard it replaced. Where 22.05 struck five points on a shell, 22.06 strikes eighteen, at a range of speeds instead of one. An oblique-impact test against an abrasive anvil was added, loading the shell with a twisting rather than a straight-line hit, and a Brain Injury Criterion now scores rotational energy on top of ordinary linear deceleration. Every accessory — visor, Pinlock, comms — is tested fitted. The Norme code on this model reads 2206, with no FIM suffix.
1,395 grams, felt over a full day
Shark's own figure is 1,395 g (+/-50 g) for the smaller of this model's shell sizes. That number matters because a helmet's weight sits above the head's centre of gravity and is carried through every head movement across a ride or a working day on the bike, not just absorbed once in an impact. Against Shark's own full-face Ridill 2, which starts at the same price, the Skwal Jet's open face is the more meaningful weight-saving factor day to day than any material difference between the two shells.
Ventilation
Air enters through two front intakes and leaves through two rear extractors, a direct path made possible by the open face itself: no chin bar diverting the flow before it reaches the rider's forehead. This is confirmed on the product page for this exact helmet, not assumed from a sibling model.
Visor and Pinlock
This helmet wears the same VZ670 visor as the Skwal Jet Cup and the LED-equipped Skwal i3 Jet: side-locking, anti-scratch treated, with a vortex generator at the edge. A Max Vision Pinlock 70 insert is included and pre-fitted, tension-adjustable rather than a fixed clip-in. Clear is the only tint road-legal for all riders; every iridium and dark-smoke option Shark sells for this shell is racing use only.
Sun visor and everyday use
A built-in sun visor lowers independently of the main visor, and the interior leaves clearance for glasses without pinching at the temple. This model is listed as compatible with both SENA and Sharktooth intercom systems, covering more comms hardware than a single-brand spec would.
Fit
Six sizes are available, XS to XXL. Unlike the Skwal Jet Cup, where independent motorcycle press confirmed two separate shell sizes, no equivalent confirmation exists for this model, and none is assumed here — the shell-size count for this specific helmet is simply not published.
Wind noise, honestly
Wind noise on this helmet, as on any jet design, is higher at speed than on a full-face — no chin bar, and a visor edge nearer the jaw. The vortex generator built into the visor reduces turbulence without eliminating it. No decibel rating exists for this model from Shark, so none is claimed here.
Where this sits on Shark's own price ladder
Blank Mat matches Blank White at 189.99 EUR — the finish here is a preference, not a price difference.
| Ridill 2 | 189.99 – 209.99 € | full-face, Shark's own entry point |
| Skwal Jet | 189.99 – 279.99 € | this helmet |
| Skwal Jet Cup | 239.99 – 309.99 € | same visor family, adds the rear spoiler this helmet does not have |
| Skwal i3 Jet | 289.99 – 349.99 € | open face, adds an LED brake light this helmet does not have |
Spare parts
Replacement visors for this model sit in Shark's shared spares collection with the Skwal Jet Cup and the Skwal i3 Jet, all using the VZ67005PINCTU Pinlock 70 insert.
What this helmet does not protect
No chin bar exists on this shell. In the kind of impact that would load a full-face helmet's chin section, this shape has no equivalent structure over the jaw. ECE 22.06 covers what the shell physically has; it says nothing about what an open face leaves uncovered by design. A lower price does not change that trade-off — it is the same one every jet helmet makes, at every price point.
About the matte finish
The matte coat is even across the whole shell, without the slightly plasticky look a cheaper matte can have, and it holds up better against gloves and visor-strap contact marks than a gloss finish over regular use. Paired with the Blank decor's lack of graphic, it is the plainest, lowest-maintenance option in this range. Panel gaps and vent edges catch shadow rather than gloss highlight under this finish, which is a small detail but a genuine one: it is easier to spot dust or a light scratch on a matte surface in good light than it would be on the equivalent gloss shell, simply because gloss hides small surface variation behind its own reflections.
Who this suits
Riders who park on the street rather than in a garage, or who commute daily regardless of weather, tend to prefer matte for exactly this reason — it simply shows less wear between cleanings. This decor suits that use case directly: no graphic to fade, no gloss to scratch, just a shell built to be used rather than looked at. A matte black jet helmet at this price is also a realistic first helmet for a new rider stepping onto a scooter or naked bike, where a plain, durable finish matters more than a graphic ever will.
