DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
British Green is a reference and everybody reading it knows to what. Deep, dark, slightly blue-shifted green is the single most period-correct colour you can put on a classic jet helmet, and it is the reason this version sells to people who already know exactly which motorcycle it is going on.
What an open-face helmet does and does not do
The useful way to think about helmet choice is by where you actually ride, not by which helmet is theoretically safest. In town, on classic machinery, on unhurried country roads, an open-face gives you awareness, comfort in traffic and a helmet you will actually put on for a five-minute journey.
🔵 At sustained high speed, or if maximum coverage is the priority, it is the wrong tool — there is no chin bar, and ECE 22.06's open-face category does not ask for one.
About the British Green finish
Racing green earns its place through association rather than through anything measurable, and there is no point pretending otherwise. What it does on this helmet is anchor it to a specific era — it sits with chrome, with brown leather, with a spoked wheel, and it is the only colour here that would look deliberate on a British twin and slightly odd on a modern naked. Optically it behaves like a dark solid: gloss, so it needs the same care as black, and roughly the same low conspicuity in poor light, though the green reads as marginally less absent than black at dusk. It is also the finish that most rewards the optional Classic peak, because the combination of dark green shell and a black peak edge is very close to what the helmets it references actually looked like.
AIM, four shells and a double-D ring
Four shell sizes on an open-face matters for a reason particular to the type: there is no chin bar to disguise the proportions. A jet is read as a shape on your head, and a shell one or two sizes too large for the head inside it is immediately obvious.
XS–S, M, L and XL–XXL each get their own AIM composite shell, each over a multi-density EPS liner, each closed with a double-D ring.
The CJ-4 visor — and the Pinlock that does not exist for it
The imitation leather loop at the back of the shell is not decoration. It is a strap retainer for classic motorcycle goggles — which is the other way to protect your eyes on this helmet, with the visor raised or removed entirely.
🔵 If you go that route, remember the visor itself is not Pinlock-compatible, so goggles are also the only way to get a proper anti-fog treated lens in front of your eyes on the J•O2.
Press studs, peaks and goggles
There is a small ecosystem behind this helmet rather than a single configuration. Six visor tints including photochromic, three peak styles, a V-480 shield, a goggle strap loop, and interior padding in several thicknesses — and every one of them fits without tools.
The peaks attach to three press studs at the brow and interchange with the Shoei EX-Zero.
Ventilation without a single vent
🔵 Do not expect adjustable ventilation. There are no sliders to open or close, so there is no way to shut the airflow down in cold weather — the system is always on, as is the face opening. That is the correct design for a helmet used mostly in mild and warm conditions, and a real limitation in December.
In its intended season it is the most comfortable thing you can put on your head.
Interior, trim and getting the fit right
Wash the interior more often than you think. A jet's padding sits closer to the open air and picks up road dust as well as sweat, and a liner that is washed twice a season lasts considerably longer than one that is never washed at all.
All of it — head pad, cheek pads, chin strap covers — comes out by hand. Replacement pads are available in several thicknesses if the fit needs adjusting at the same time.
Around 1150 grams, and the rest of the honest list
🔵 If you ride with a passenger and talk to them, or use navigation prompts, this is the wrong helmet. There is no communication system designed into it and no speaker recesses in the interior; anything you fit will be sitting on the padding rather than in it.
What you get instead is roughly 1150 g, an unobstructed field of view, and the ability to simply hear the person next to you at a fuel stop.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
Shoei's range splits neatly by intent rather than by price. Racing at the top, sport-touring and flip-up in the middle, and at the bottom two very different classics: this jet and the Glamster06 full-face.
The J•O2 is the most affordable Shoei you can buy, which says more about the simplicity of an open-face shell than about the quality of this one.
| Model | Type | From |
|---|---|---|
| J•O2 | Jet (classic) | from 399 € |
| Glamster06 | Full-face (retro) | from 469 € |
| J-Cruise 3 | Jet (premium touring) | from 549 € |
| GT-Air3 | Full-face (sport-touring) | from 599 € |
| Neotec 3 | Flip-up (P/J) | from 669 € |
| X-SPR PRO | Full-face (racing) | from 799 € |
When something wears out
Worth keeping a spare clear visor if you run a tinted one. There is no internal sun shield on this helmet, so a dark CJ-4 commits you for the whole ride — and swapping back at the roadside is a thirty-second job only if the clear one is in your luggage.
All six CJ-4 tints are stocked, along with peaks and interior padding.
