Green is rare on road helmets and this is the only one in the X.WST3 range. Against a black ground it reads as an accent rather than a field, which is what keeps it from looking like a team livery.

A streetfighter shell with a spoiler that works

Two independent verdicts exist for this helmet and they agree. A scored road test put it at 3.9 out of 5 overall; MOTORCYCLE NEWS rated it 4/5. For a helmet sold largely on its appearance, that is a better result than the category usually produces.

🔵 No SHARP rating exists — the programme has no entry for the X.WST3, and there is no ADAC or Snell result either.

About the B-Side Black Green graphic

A single strong colour on a dark shell is the most conservative way to be non-neutral, and it suits this helmet's shape. Because the green is contained rather than covering, the eye still reads the silhouette first — the spoiler, the aperture, the vent line — and the colour second. That is the right order on a helmet whose design is its selling point. Practically, the dark ground hides road film and insect strike far better than a pale one, which makes this among the lower-maintenance graphics here. 🔵 Conspicuity sits close to the plain black: better than nothing, well short of the white versions.

The X-Matrix2 shell

Four homologations apply to this shell — ECE 22-06, DOT FMVSS 218, CCC GB811:2022 and NBR7471:2015. The shell material is a weight and cost decision rather than a certification one; the carbon version carries exactly the same four.

Anti-Vibration EPS — two shells and a rubber layer

The two-part EPS also explains where the Mid Airflow Chamber lives. Splitting the liner creates a gap, and Nexx uses it twice — for the rubber decoupling layer, and as an air path around the head.

One structural decision, two functions, and part of why the helmet weighs what it does.

Recoil visor, sun visor and the spare in the bag

The internal sun visor drops to just above the bridge of the nose — 18 % more coverage than the previous generation. That last centimetre is what stops low sun coming in under the edge, which is precisely when a sun visor matters.

🔵 It means a tinted outer visor is unnecessary on this helmet, and a dark visor is not road-legal at night in most of Europe anyway.

Six intakes, two chambers — and a 4/5 measurement

The Air Cumbs crown pad is stitched with an alveolar mesh that holds a fresh-air chamber between the EPS and the padding, so incoming air has somewhere to travel instead of being absorbed immediately by the lining.

Combined with the inter-EPS Mid Airflow Chamber, that is two separate air paths above your head. Independent testing scored the result 4/5.

How quiet it actually is

The twin-lip visor seal addresses the highest-frequency component of helmet noise — the whistle that leaks around a poorly seated visor edge, which is the part a helmet can actually control.

🔵 The measured overall figure was 100 dB average, scored 4 out of 5 in an independent road test.

Interior, retention and fit

Retention is a metal micrometric ratchet with an X-LOCK magnetic catch — not a double-D ring. That is the right choice on a road helmet worn twice a day: quick, workable in gloves, and adjustable to the millimetre.

🔵 A ratchet needs its adjustment checked occasionally in a way a double-D does not. The chin-strap covers are removable.

🔵 The carbon versions of this helmet save 75 g for around 130 €. On a helmet whose weight was independently scored 2/5, that saving is worth more than it would be on a lighter one — but it does not change the category.

Comms, camera and spare parts

Moulded night-vision reflectors are built into the shell rather than applied as stickers, which means they will still be there in five years — and on a road helmet used in city traffic at night that is functional rather than decorative.
