The matt dark blue Icarus is the version that behaves most like a solid — the graphic is fully present at close range and the helmet reads as one deep colour from across a street.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

🔵 MT states the Cosmo SV was designed to surpass ECE 22.06 with all of its accessories fitted, including the intercom — which is a meaningful claim, because fitted accessories are exactly what a certification test does not usually account for.

It is the manufacturer's claim rather than an independent finding. And it does not change the absence of a chin bar.

About the Icarus B7 finish

Deep colour under a flat finish is genuinely harder to produce well than gloss, because matt clear coat over a saturated base tends to go chalky. Dark blue is dark enough to avoid that, which is why the combination works here and would not on a lighter shade. It is also among the most practical finishes in the range: matt absorbs the handling marks a jet accumulates at every stop, and a mid-dark blue hides road film better than black does. 🔵 Like every matt finish it is washed rather than polished, and it shows dry dust more readily than gloss.

HIRP, ECE 22.06 and DOT

🔵 No independent safety rating exists for this helmet and none will — SHARP does not lab-rate open-face jets, and there is no ADAC or Snell entry. An absent rating here means out of scope rather than poorly rated.

MT-ESP — a full-coverage sun visor on a jet

The sun shield mechanism is the part of a helmet most likely to develop a rattle over years of use, and it is worth checking on any second-hand example. On a new one it should deploy and retract cleanly without play.

The MT-V-37 visor and the patented MT-QVSS

🔵 Order visors by the MT-V-37 designation rather than by the helmet name. It is specific to this shell and does not interchange with the MT-V-28 series used on MT's full-face helmets.

All of them run on the same patented MT-QVSS mechanism.

Active ventilation and the removable rear deflector

Airflow only happens if there is somewhere lower in pressure for the air to go, which is why the rear exhaust matters as much as the front intakes. The removable deflector sits directly in that path.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

The MT-Micrometric+ closure fastens one-handed, which matters on a helmet taken on and off several times a day. It also releases one-handed, which is the part you appreciate at a fuel stop in the rain.

🔵 Check the adjustment periodically — ratchets drift, and a strap that has loosened lets the helmet move.

Interior, fit and intercom preparation

The parts that wear on any helmet are the ones you touch, and on a jet that is most of the interior — the lining, the cheek padding and the trim around the opening all take skin contact daily.

🔵 All of it is removable and washable, which is what decides whether a helmet lasts three years or one.

🔵 If you already own a communicator, check it against the UCS mounting before assuming it will fit. This is a pre-installation for MT's own system rather than a universal slot.

That is a genuine difference from MT's cheaper models, which use a universal UCS slot instead.

Where it sits in MT's range

🔵 The most useful way to place this helmet: it is a city and short-distance helmet with the equipment level of a touring one. For a scooter, a small motorcycle or a daily commute it is a genuinely strong package.

For motorway distance it is the wrong tool, and MT's own full-face range covers that better.

When something wears out

The serviceable parts list on this helmet is longer than most jets': visor, sun shield, lining, cheek pads, vent pieces and the removable rear deflector.
