DescriptionThe whole story▼
The first Ducati Diavels reached their owners in 2011, and the mix of a superbike-derived V-twin with a cruiser's stance has kept many of them on the road ever since. A Diavel with ten or more seasons behind it has usually had tyres, chain and pads renewed several times, while its front discs may still be the ones fitted at the factory. Accossato's DK053, a floating front disc with a black carrier, 320 mm in diameter and 4.5 mm thick, is listed for the Diavel from 2011 to 2018 and replaces those factory discs.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Diavel 1200, 2011 to 2018
- Accossato's list also names the Cromo and Dark
- Diameter 320 mm, centre bore 72 mm, thickness 4.5 mm
- Ring and black carrier connected by rivets
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
- Wear limit printed on every disc
- Sold singly; the Diavel needs two front discs
- No German ABE documented, track use
Construction and Material Quality
Look at the DK053 face-on and you see its two halves: a black carrier at the centre and, around it, the ring that meets the pads. They are coupled by rivets rather than made in one piece, and that loose coupling is what floating means. Heat collects in the ring, which can expand without stressing the carrier and can settle between the pads. The disc centres on a 72 mm bore and, as the supplier puts it, exchanges for the Ducati original. Accossato notes that a disc worn past its limit may fail under extreme load, and it prints that limit on each disc it makes.
Ten Seasons On
Many owners of early Diavels treat the bike as something to keep rather than to use up, and the brakes are where that attitude pays off. After a decade the discs deserve a proper look. Where the pad track ends near the outer edge, a small ridge often forms, and its height shows how much material has gone. Colouring in blue or bronze hints at hard use; hairline cracks mean the disc comes off at once. Accossato's rule of thumb, a change after roughly thirty to forty thousand kilometres, is only a guide here, because years of use can thin a disc whatever the odometer shows. Renew the pads together with the discs, and let the workshop change the brake fluid during the same visit.
Fitment and Compatibility
The DK053 is listed by Accossato for the Diavel 1200 between 2011 and 2018, with the Cromo and Dark named alongside the standard bike. The Diavel has two discs at the front, so a full change takes two; the price covers one. Accossato also makes the DKS053 for this Diavel, a thicker disc of the same diameter, plus the EDF099 brake lever and the ESH011 clutch lever.
Road Approval
A German ABE or type approval for this disc is not documented. It is therefore intended for circuit and competition riding.
Scope of Delivery
The delivery is a single DK053 floating disc on its black carrier.
