DescriptionThe whole story▼
A Ducati Hyperstrada 939 used for touring piles up distance quickly, and at some point in its life the front discs will need renewing. The question is when. The DK053 is Accossato's floating front disc for the Hyperstrada 939 of 2016 and 2017, a 320 mm design whose black carrier holds a ring 4.5 mm thick; the supplier treats it as a like-for-like replacement for the original disc.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Hyperstrada 939, 2016 to 2017
- Diameter 320 mm, bore 72 mm, thickness 4.5 mm
- Black carrier; friction ring attached by rivets
- Swaps for the original equipment disc
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- Sold as one disc; the front brake has two
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
With its separate friction ring and black carrier, the DK053 follows the floating principle. Rivets hold the ring to the carrier while allowing slight movement, so heat expansion in the ring does not reach the carrier as stress. The disc centres on a 72 mm bore. Accossato explains its disc work with its racing background in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, where accurate tolerances and the right choice of materials are taken seriously.
A Micrometer at Every Service
The simplest way to know a disc's condition is to measure it. A micrometer, or a vernier gauge if nothing else is at hand, placed on the pad track at several points gives the current thickness; compare it with the minimum Accossato prints on each disc. Writing the reading into the service book at every inspection shows how fast the discs of your Hyperstrada 939 are wearing and when they will reach the limit. As a guide, Accossato suggests replacing discs every thirty to forty thousand kilometres, or earlier if they are worn, scored or cracked. Touring riders who cover long distances each season can then plan the change for the winter instead of discovering it halfway through a trip.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's fitment for the DK053 covers the Hyperstrada 939 from 2016 to 2017. The bike uses two front discs and the price is for one, so two are needed. The thicker DKS053 is Accossato's alternative for this Hyperstrada, and the EDB012 brake lever and ESD082 clutch lever are listed as well.
Road Approval
The DK053 is a track part: our records show no German ABE and no type approval for it.
