DescriptionThe whole story▼
A SuperSport 950 with a passenger on board is a different machine at the front brake. The extra weight moves forward as the bike slows, the fork dives further and the stopping distance grows. Accossato's list includes the DK053 for the Ducati SuperSport 950 from 2021 to 2024: a floating front disc, 320 mm in diameter and 4.5 mm thick, with a black carrier and, according to the maker, interchangeable with the original disc.
Key Features
- Floating front brake disc for the Ducati SuperSport 950, listed 2021 to 2024
- 320 mm outer, 72 mm inner, 4.5 mm thick
- Friction ring riveted to a black carrier
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc, per Accossato
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- Two discs on the front wheel; the price is for one
- Alternative on Accossato's list: the thicker DKS053
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Conventional in layout, the DK053 pairs a black carrier with a 72 mm bore, which bolts to the wheel, with a 320 mm friction ring held to it by rivets that leave a controlled amount of play. That play lets the ring expand when it heats up, without warping, and lets it run centred between the pads. Accossato says it paid particular attention to the tolerances of this connection and to the materials, and that its experience with discs was gained in Superbike and in the Moto2 and Moto3 classes. The friction ring is 4.5 mm thick.
Two-Up on the SuperSport
Riding with a passenger changes how you should use the brakes. More mass means more energy to turn into heat at every stop, and it arrives at the front wheel as the bike pitches forward. The SuperSport 950 copes well, but it asks for more planning: brake earlier and more progressively, so that your passenger feels the deceleration build instead of being pushed into your back.
Brief the passenger before the first ride: hold on around the rider's waist, keep both feet on the pegs, brace against the tank with the hands when a stop is firm, and look over the rider's inside shoulder in bends. A passenger who stays relaxed and moves with the bike makes smooth stops much easier. For a long two-up trip on the SuperSport 950, check the front discs before leaving, and if they are close to the minimum printed on them, change them first. Accossato's own guideline is a replacement after thirty to forty thousand kilometres, earlier if the discs are worn or cracked, and a bike that regularly carries two people tends to reach that point sooner.
Fitment and Compatibility
Across the model years 2021 to 2024, Accossato lists the DK053 for the SuperSport 950, and next to it the thicker DKS053 for the same bike. Measure an original disc on its friction band before deciding. The front wheel carries two discs and each is sold singly. Accossato also lists its EDF099 brake lever for this SuperSport. When fitting, tighten the bolts to Ducati's torque, and check the wheel bearings while the wheel is out.
Road Approval
Neither a German ABE, nor a type approval can be shown for the DK053, which makes it a part for track days and racing.
