DescriptionThe whole story▼
This second Raceblock colourway shares its base article number, HE8166, with the red-accented version above but carries a different colour code (DUB rather than DUR) and, per the supplier's naming, a blue rather than red accent: Carbon Chrome Blue. Like its sibling, it currently has no manufacturer product photograph, so this description rests on the price-list wording alone. Choosing between the two Raceblock colour codes is a matter of accent colour alone, since both share an identical glossy finish, the same base graphic concept implied by the shared name, and the same underlying shell described below.
Finish
This colourway is recorded as glossy, matching its red-accented Raceblock sibling rather than pairing a glossy version against a separate matte one, a pattern this specific decor does not follow unlike several others in the line. No further layout detail is available without a photograph. The chrome-blue accent implied by the supplier naming would, if the pattern from this line's other metallic-accent decors holds, likely read as a bright highlight against the darker carbon base rather than covering the whole shell — though, absent a photograph, this remains a reasonable inference rather than a confirmed description.
About this Raceblock colourway
This is the blue-accented half of the two-colour-code Raceblock pairing in this line, sharing the base HE8166 article number and the 'Chrome' metallic-accent naming element with its red sibling documented above, distinguished only by colour code rather than by a different finish. The same applies to this colour code as to its red sibling: Raceblock is offered only glossy in this line, across two colour codes rather than two finishes, so a matte version simply does not exist here.
ECE 22.06, the certificate on this article
HE8166EDUB carries the same ECE 22.06 homologation as every Spartan RS Carbon decor, the EU's mandatory bar for newly certified helmets since January 2024. Against the previous 22.05 rulebook, testing moved from five impact points at one speed to eighteen across several, added a twisting oblique-impact test against a rough anvil, and introduced a rotational Brain Injury Criterion score for the first time. No FIM suffix appears on the Norme field — this is a road certificate.
What carbon buys over fibre, here too
The shell under this blue-accented Raceblock is the same carbon construction fitted across the line, 1455 g at Shark's stated first shell size. Certification, closure hardware, EPS density and visor family track the fibre Spartan RS exactly — carbon's contribution is a lighter number on the scale and a different look under the coat, nothing more.
Reading the weight figure correctly
Shark's own number is 1455 g at the smallest shell size; independent carbon-range testing recorded 1485 g on its unit. Neither figure changes what actually matters on the road — the helmet's mass sits on the neck for the length of the ride, working through every lean and stop rather than being dead weight.
Airflow, tested independently
A 3-out-of-5 ventilation score applies to this carbon shell: the chin vent performs well under load leaning forward, cools less effectively once the weather turns properly hot, and the top vent sits at adequate rather than best-in-class. This is shell geometry, unaffected by the DUB colour code.
Sun shade and main visor
An internal drop-down sun visor ships as standard, sitting behind a VZ300 outer visor rated optical class 1, running 2.8 mm to 2.2 mm in thickness, held by four anchor points and a central lock, anti-scratch treated, and pre-fitted with a clear Pinlock 120 insert rather than sold as an add-on.
Included with the helmet
Independently reviewed decors from this same carbon range list a helmet bag, reflective bands and the pre-seated Pinlock 120 Max Vision insert as standard kit, backed by a 5-year warranty. Removing the outer visor needs no tools, and the chin flap can be unclipped when preferred.
Comms mounting
Like every decor in this line, the cheek pad hides a recess sized for Shark's Sharktooth intercom or a SENA For SHARK unit, sitting flush against the shell rather than needing an external cradle.
Size range and shell count
Two shell sizes cover the XS-to-XXL run here, identical to the rest of the Spartan RS Carbon family. The brushed suede-effect Alveotech interior and the tight, wind-isolating neck roll are the same fitted throughout this range, regardless of which of the two Raceblock colour codes is chosen.
Noise, without a fabricated number
No official dB rating exists for this or any decor in the carbon line. An independent review of the shared shell scored noise 4 out of 5 — slight buffeting at motorway pace, calm enough in town — offered here as a tester's judgement, not a laboratory result.
Parts availability
The VZ300 visor on this decor draws from the same spare-parts pool Shark maintains for the fibre Spartan RS and the Spartan GT Pro Carbon, so replacement tints stay available well beyond what a single-decor visor design would support. This applies equally to the red-accented Raceblock sibling, since both draw from the same VZ300 stock pool rather than a colour-specific one.
Where this sits in Shark's own range
This decor is priced at 459.99 EUR before any storewide discount. Set against Shark's own current 2027 lineup rather than a competitor's:
| Line | UVP range | Shell |
|---|---|---|
| Spartan RS Fibre | 359.99 - 389.99 EUR | Multiaxial composite fibre |
| OXO | 349.99 - 459.99 EUR | Thermoplastic modular |
| Spartan RS Carbon (this decor: 459.99 EUR) | 429.99 - 529.99 EUR | Carbon, VZ300 visor shared with Fibre |
| Spartan GT Pro | 499.99 EUR | Thermoplastic |
| Spartan GT Pro Carbon | 549.99 - 629.99 EUR | Carbon, also shares the VZ300 visor |
Limitations, honestly
No manufacturer photograph exists for this decor, so the Carbon Chrome Blue colour name is presented as supplied rather than verified — one of only two un-photographed decors in this nine-decor line, the other being its red Raceblock sibling. The 3.0-out-of-5 ventilation score and the reported early Pinlock-fitting issue apply to the shared carbon shell here as elsewhere in the range. As with its red-accented sibling, the 459.99 EUR price here matches several other glossy decors in this line exactly, so colour preference rather than budget is what should decide between the two Raceblock codes.
