DescriptionThe whole story▼
Cheeky C3 pairs grey with fluorescent yellow and is by a clear margin the most visible helmet in the Genesis R SV range. On a modular ridden through mixed European weather, that is a specification rather than a preference.
A chin guard that opens — and the P/J question
🔵 A flip-up carries roughly 150–250 g more than a fixed full-face of the same class, all of it in the hinge, the seal and the reinforcement. That is the unavoidable cost of a chin guard that opens.
MT does not publish a weight for the Genesis R SV at all, which is covered honestly further down this page.
About the Cheeky C3 graphic
Fluorescent pigments convert ultraviolet into visible light, which is why they appear to glow rather than merely to be bright — and why they keep working in exactly the conditions where ordinary colours fail: overcast, dusk, rain and the flat grey of a winter motorway. Setting the fluorescent against grey rather than white keeps the helmet from looking like workwear while the grey absorbs the dirt a bright ground would show. 🔵 Fluorescent fades faster than any other pigment type under sustained sun, and only storage out of direct light slows it.
HIRP, ECE 22.06 — and the weight MT does not publish
The structure is conventional and appropriate: an injection-moulded HIRP shell to spread the load and resist penetration, over a polystyrene liner that absorbs energy by permanently crushing.
🔵 A crushed liner does not recover. After a real impact the helmet is finished — and on a flip-up the hinge should be checked annually regardless.
The integrated sun visor
🔵 A tinted visor is not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries, and the rules differ between them. A retractable internal shield sidesteps the question entirely — it is up when the light goes.
The 935 main visor stays clear behind it.
The 935 visor and the Pinlock you buy separately
Look after the visor and it will outlast the padding. Never wipe a dry visor — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against oncoming headlights at night.
🔵 Wet it first, every time.
Interior, fit and intercom spaces
🔵 On a flip-up there is one extra maintenance item a fixed full-face does not have: the chin-guard pivot and its seals. Check them annually — a seized hinge ends a modular helmet as surely as a crushed liner.
The interior itself comes out entirely for washing.
The micrometric closure
🔵 A loose strap is the most common way a helmet fails to do its job, and on a flip-up it compounds: a helmet that can rotate is also a helmet whose chin guard is not where it should be.
The micrometric closure adjusts finely enough to get it right. Check it periodically.
Where it sits in MT's range
🔵 Against a fixed full-face at the same money — MT's own Braker SV is 115 € too — the question is whether you will actually use the chin guard.
Riders who open it at every stop find modulars indispensable; riders who do not are carrying 150–250 g of hinge for nothing. Be honest about which you are.
When something wears out
Genuine parts matter more on a helmet than on most things, because the visor, the chin-guard mechanism and the retention system are part of what was certified to ECE 22.06.
Everything we stock for the Genesis R SV is MT's own.

Specification
- Model — MT-Helmets Genesis R SV
- Part number — 1376D54C3203
- Colour — Cheeky C3 — Matt, grey and neon yellow
- Homologation — ECE 22.06 — 🔴 ECE only; unlike MT's Atom 2 SV and Braker SV there is no DOT approval
- 🔴 P/J dual homologation — not documented by MT. P/J is what makes riding with the chin guard raised legal in most of Europe — check the approval label on the helmet before relying on it
- 🔴 Safety rating — none — SHARP has never listed the Genesis R SV, and modular helmets are rarely tested by the programme. No ADAC or Snell result, and no independent road test has been published
- Helmet type — Modular / flip-up, touring
- Shell — HIRP (High Impact Resistant Polymer)
- 🔴 Weight — not published by MT. Around 1650 g is our estimate for a HIRP modular of this class, by comparison with the Atom 2 SV at roughly 1.7 kg. Treat it as an estimate rather than a specification
- Sizes — XS to XXL (six sizes)
- Chin guard — flip-up with a robust modular locking system
- Visor — 935 with a wide field of vision
- 🔴 Anti-fog — ready for Pinlock® DKS279 or DKS002 — neither insert is supplied
- Sun visor — integrated drop-down shield
- Retention — micrometric closure
- Interior — fully removable and washable, with intercom-ready spaces
- Communication — intercom-ready — no system supplied
- Impact liner — expanded polystyrene — crushes once and does not recover; replace the helmet after any real impact
- Serviceability — visor, Pinlock lens, sun shield, lining and cheek pads all available separately
- Flip-up maintenance — check the chin-guard pivot and its seals annually — dust and water are what seize a modular mechanism
- Compared with the Atom 2 SV — that helmet adds DOT approval, the MT-FSOS and MT-ESLS visor systems, a supplied Pinlock DKS512 lens and a chin curtain, for around 38 € more on the same HIRP platform
- Manufacturer — MT-Helmets (MT Helmets, Spain)
- Sizing note — measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and try the size the chart gives you. A helmet that can be rolled forward off your head with the strap fastened is too large
- Care — wash the lining by hand a few times a season; never wipe the visor or the sun shield dry, as road dust scratches both permanently
- Replacement guidance — after around five years of use regardless of condition, and immediately after any impact
- Compared with the Braker SV — MT's fixed full-face costs the same 115 € and adds DOT approval and a nose deflector, but cannot open at a stop. The question is simply whether you will use the chin guard
- Worth budgeting — a Pinlock DKS279 or DKS002 anti-fog insert before the first cold month — neither is supplied, and a winter commute mists the visor at every stop without one
- Ordering spare optics — the 935 visor and the DKS279 / DKS002 Pinlock lenses are specific to this model. They do not interchange with the MT-V-28 / DKS435 parts used on MT's full-face helmets, nor with the MT-V-35 / DKS512 parts on the Atom 2 SV — order by designation rather than by helmet name
- Head protection — full-face when closed — the chin and jaw are covered, which is the largest protective difference between helmet types
- Made for — commuting, touring and long distances where the chin guard earns its keep at every stop — a flip-up carries 150–250 g over a fixed full-face for that convenience
