DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Knox Urbane Pro MK3 in all black is the third generation of one of the best-known armoured shirts in motorcycling. Knox designed it to be worn on its own in hot weather, with no jacket required, and calls it the core garment for any rider on any type of motorcycle.
It is CE approved as a stand-alone Class AA garment under EN 17092, so it is certified for both abrasion and impact protection, with Micro-Lock Compact Level 2 armour in the back, shoulders and elbows.
Key Features
- Stand-alone Class AA garment under EN 17092 – no outer shell needed
- Micro-Lock Compact Level 2 armour in back, shoulders and elbows
- High-tenacity stretch nylon with tough breathable arrownet mesh
- Two exterior zipped pockets with reflective pullers, four internal
- Interior phone and earplug pockets, visor wipe included
- Comfort binding at neck and cuffs, thumb loops
- Velcro mount for an optional Micro-Lock chest protector
Why an Armoured Shirt
Worn close to the body, the armour in the Urbane Pro MK3 stays in place and does not move around, which is the core argument for an armoured shirt over a loose jacket. Knox describes the MK3 as lightweight, breathable, impact and abrasion resistant, and it is certified as such.
Because it is Class AA on its own, the MK3 does not need an outer shell. In changing conditions you add a warm or waterproof layer from the Knox Seasonless collection and keep the MK3 as your protective base.
The Armour
Knox fits its newer Micro-Lock Compact armour at Level 2, which it describes as thinner, lighter and more flexible than before. Protectors sit in the shoulders, elbows and a full-length back protector certified to EN 1621-2 Level 2.
A branded Velcro panel on the inside front allows a Micro-Lock chest protector to be added as an optional extra.
Fabrics and Airflow
The shirt is built from high-tenacity stretch nylon combined with a tough, breathable arrownet mesh selected for abrasion, cut and tear resistance. Stretch mesh panels add flexibility and comfort.
Knox's own label describes it as lightweight, breathable and comfortable for riding in the heat, which is exactly where the MK3 is meant to be worn alone.
Pockets and Details
Two exterior zipped pockets with reflective zip pullers, a visor wipe, four low-profile interior pockets and dedicated phone and earplug pockets give plenty of storage. YKK zips are used throughout.
The neck and cuffs have soft comfort binding, the front placket is embossed, thumb loops add security and a discreet stretch reflective binding only shows at night. A patch on the sleeve references Knox heritage, and the security belt loops fasten the shirt to your trousers.
MK3 or Move?
Knox now offers two Urbane Pro shirts side by side. The MK3 keeps a conventional lining and arrownet mesh and adds phone, earplug and visor-wipe storage; the newer Move swaps the lining for power mesh for even more airflow. Both are Class AA with Level 2 Micro-Lock Compact armour, so the choice comes down to how hot you ride.
What You Should Know
The MK3 is a hot-weather garment and is neither waterproof nor insulated. The chest protector is optional and not supplied. For a lighter, more ventilated shirt from the same family, see the Urbane Pro Move.
Remove the armour before machine washing and follow the care labels.
Colour
All Black keeps the Urbane Pro MK3 understated; under an open jacket or on its own with jeans it looks like a technical top rather than motorcycle armour. Black hides road dirt well but warms up in direct sun and offers little daytime visibility; the stretch reflective binding makes up for some of that after dark.
