DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Knox Impass in black is the men's jacket from Knox's Impass Waterproof Collection, made to be the barrier between you and wind, rain and storms. It is a light, soft-stretch waterproof shell with a 20k membrane and fully sealed seams, designed to go over a Knox armoured shirt.
The Impass carries no CE rating and no armour: it is a weather layer. Protection comes from the armoured shirt underneath, and the Impass keeps that shirt, and you, dry.
Key Features
- 20k waterproof membrane, windproof and breathable
- Fully seam-sealed, with bonded cuffs and hem instead of stitching
- Soft-stretch outer fabric with a soft, brushed interior
- Asymmetric main zip to reduce bulk at the collar
- Zip-off waterproof hood with drawcord
- Large central water-repellent pocket with phone and key organisers
- Reflective twin-stitch details, piping and Knox branding
A Waterproof Layer for the Seasonless System
Knox's Seasonless approach separates protection from weather. Your armoured shirt carries the impact protectors and abrasion rating; the Impass goes over it when the sky closes in. Knox designed the jacket to sit comfortably over an armoured shirt or under other Knox layers without restricting movement.
For a full rain outfit, Knox makes matching Impass overtrousers in a unisex cut.
Keeping Water Out
The heart of the Impass is a high-performance 20k waterproof membrane that is also windproof and breathable. The whole body is seam-sealed, and Knox bonds the cuffs and hem rather than stitching them, removing needle holes where water could enter and giving the jacket a clean finish.
A drawcord at the neckline and another at the hem tighten the jacket against wind-driven rain, and the Lift & Lock cuff system secures the sleeve over your gloves.
Comfort and Fit
Knox describes the fabric as strong but soft-stretch, with a luxurious soft interior: more like premium outdoor clothing than a crackly rain cape. The asymmetric main zip moves bulk away from the centre of the collar so the jacket feels better under the chin when you are on the bike.
The zip-off hood with adjustable drawcord is meant for off-bike rain and comes off while riding to stop it flapping in the wind.
Storage and Visibility
A large central water-repellent zipped pocket has organisers for phone and keys, and there is an extra side pocket. Reflective twin-stitch details, dark integrated reflective piping and reflective Knox branding make the black jacket more visible in low light.
Sizing Over Armour
Pick the Impass in the size you wear for your Knox armoured shirt; the jacket is cut to go over it. Knox's men's chart is based on chest and waist body measurements and recommends going up a size if you are between two.
What You Should Know
The Impass is not protective clothing. It has no CE certification, no armour and no pockets for protectors; wear it over a Knox armoured shirt for protection. It is not insulated either, so in cold weather you will want a warm mid-layer underneath.
Black is the only Impass colour offered in 4XL and 5XL; Tobacco and Smoke Blue end at 3XL.
Colour
Black is the most practical Impass for daily use: it hides road spray and dirt and works with every helmet and trouser. Rain and grey skies are exactly when a black jacket is hardest to see, though, so the reflective twin-stitching, piping and branding are important here; consider adding a bright element if you commute in heavy traffic.
