DescriptionThe whole story▼
An R6 with an I2M dashboard takes the JP SPS 003 as its sport left switch. One part covers seventeen model years.
Key Features
- Yamaha R6 (2006–2022)
- Requires an I2M dashboard
- CNC-milled Ergal 7075
- Sealed switch elements
- Racing loom required
- Sport control set
Two Generations, One Switch
The span covers the 2006 bike with its 17.500 rpm ceiling and the 2017 machine with R1 bodywork and ride-by-wire. They are quite different motorcycles, and the switch fits both because it answers to the dashboard rather than to Yamaha.
The Supersport Default
More club-level supersport machines are built from R6s than from anything else. The chassis is the reference, the parts are everywhere and the population is large enough that setup knowledge is freely shared.
Adding Data to a Bike That Has None
The 2006 R6 tells the rider nothing beyond speed and revs. Fitting an I2M system gives lap times, sector splits and suspension traces, which on a machine with no electronics of its own is a considerably larger step than the same system on a modern bike.
Sport Control Set
Fewer functions than a road cluster, more than a stripped superbike one. It is the arrangement most track-day riders end up preferring, because a completely bare cockpit is unhelpful on a bike that still gets ridden home.
The Racing Loom
Yamaha's standard harness will not drive this switch. The loom has to be replaced, which removes the lighting circuits and the immobiliser along with a useful weight of wire.
Sealed Against Hot Washing
Sealed elements inside a body milled from one block. Supersport machines are cleaned after every session, frequently with a jet and frequently while still warm.
Black Anodised
A single finish, converted into the surface rather than applied on top of it. On a race-prepared R6 it is what most riders would choose in any case.
