Read by the I2M Unit
The block's inputs never reach Ducati's electronics. They are interpreted by the dashboard, which means the same hardware behaves differently depending on how a team has set it up.
Configured, Not Wired
Changing what a button does is a laptop job rather than a soldering iron job. That flexibility is most of the reason a privateer accepts the cost of a separate system.
A Homologation Base
The R exists so the Panigale could be raced. Titanium rods, a lightened crank and a rev ceiling nobody expected from a twin all trace back to that single requirement.
Data on a Monday
Sessions are ridden at the weekend and understood three days later at a screen. Everything this block does exists to make that review possible rather than to help during the lap.
Sealed Contacts
Enclosed within the machined body. Hot pressure washing after every session is the single most reliable way to destroy switchgear on a competition motorcycle.
Black Anodised
Grown into the aluminium. Race components live in trailers and get cleaned aggressively, and anodising handles both considerably better than any coating.
Two Hundred and Two Horsepower
From 1198 cc with a redline at 12.000 rpm. Inline fours of the period struggled to match those figures and Ducati produced them from a twin.
Adjustable Ride Height
Rear height and swingarm pivot both move on an R. They are paddock adjustments that exist because of the racing requirement, and a team with a data system actually uses them.
Built to Come Apart
Machined from one block, so it survives the repeated removal a racing season demands. There is nothing clipped together to lose its grip.
