DescriptionThe whole story▼
The HP4 Race is a carbon-framed, carbon-wheeled BMW built in a run of 750 and never registered for the road. The JP SPS 003 is its sport left switch, for use with an I2M dashboard.
Key Features
- BMW HP4 Race (2017–2018)
- Requires an I2M dashboard
- CNC-milled Ergal 7075
- Sealed switch elements
- Racing loom required
- Sport control set
A Motorcycle With No Number Plate
BMW built the HP4 Race as a track-only machine: a carbon fibre main frame, carbon wheels, a 215 hp engine from the works Superstock programme, and no provision whatsoever for road use. Seven hundred and fifty were made. It is the only BMW in this catalogue that was never intended to carry indicators in the first place.
Why a Race Bike Still Needs Aftermarket Switchgear
The HP4 Race came with BMW's own racing dashboard and loom. Owners who prefer to log with an I2M system replace both, and at that point the factory switchgear no longer has anything to talk to. This part restores the interface, built for the I2M button map rather than for BMW's.
Carbon Frame, Aluminium Cockpit
Almost every structural component on this motorcycle was chosen to be lighter than its equivalent on an S1000RR. The switchgear was not, because the weight involved is trivial and the requirement is reliability. Ergal 7075 milled from solid is a conventional choice on an entirely unconventional bike, and the right one.
A Short Fitment for a Short Production Run
2017 and 2018, and nothing else. There is no road variant, no successor and no later model year to be confused with. On a motorcycle this rare the fitment question is straightforward, which makes a change from most of this catalogue.
Values and Consequences
An HP4 Race is worth a great deal and most of the 750 built have seen limited use. Any change to one is made with resale in mind, and a switch that plugs into the I2M loom without altering the motorcycle itself is the kind of modification that does not cost anything when the bike changes hands.
