DescriptionThe whole story▼
After weeks without rain, the first shower makes a road far slipperier than it looks. Oil, rubber dust and dirt that have built up on the surface float to the top, and grip drops sharply until more rain has washed them away. For a newer rider on a Z800e, Kawasaki's A2 edition of the Z800, that is the day the right hand needs to be at its most careful. The Accossato EDF021 is a brake lever for the Z800e of 2013 to 2016. It is CNC-machined from aluminium and anodised, mounts on the original master cylinder, and its reach is adjustable.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Kawasaki Z800e, 2013 to 2016
- Reach adjustable, blade can be set close to the grip
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange and silver
- Standard blade, approximately 138 mm, in all seven colours
- Long blade in blue, gold, green and orange
- Anodised CNC-machined aluminium, black hub, no folding joint
- No German ABE documented, sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Riding a Z800e in the wet makes the lever your main source of information about grip, and a lever with play would blur it. The EDF021 is fixed, with no hinge along the blade, so there is no lost motion between the fingers and the master cylinder. It is CNC-machined from aluminium and anodised afterwards, giving the blade a smooth, hard surface with the colour set into it and consistent edges where wet gloves rest. The black hub carries the pivot and the reach adjuster on every version.
The First Rain After a Dry Spell
On those first wet kilometres, ride as if the grip were half of what you expect. Brake earlier and with less pressure, build it gradually and release it smoothly, and avoid braking on painted markings, manhole covers and the shiny patches where cars stop at junctions. The first squeeze is the one that matters most, because that is where a sudden grab would overwhelm the tyre. Wet-weather gloves are usually thicker and less sensitive, so on the Z800e it helps to check the EDF021's reach in the gloves you use in the rain; the blade should still meet your fingers at the first joint without the hand opening wide. The standard blade, closest to the original, leaves room for three fingers if you want a steadier squeeze in the wet, and the short one suits two-finger braking. After a few hours of steady rain the road usually becomes more predictable again.
Fitment and Compatibility
In Accossato's list, the Z800e is entered as Z 800 E with the model years 2013 to 2016, and the EDF021 replaces the lever on its original front master cylinder. The clutch side of the same bike is covered by Accossato's ESK828, listed across the same years.
Road Approval
No German ABE has been documented for this brake lever; it is sold for track use.
