DescriptionThe whole story▼
Many Z800s left the factory with ABS, and ABS is often misunderstood. It keeps the front wheel from locking at the very limit, but everything before that point, how quickly the pressure builds, how early you brake, how smoothly you let go, remains the rider's job. The Accossato EDF021 replaces the front brake lever of the Kawasaki Z800 from 2013 to 2016. Machined from aluminium and anodised, it fits the original master cylinder, and its adjustable reach lets the hand that does that job do it from the right place.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Kawasaki Z800, 2013 to 2016
- Mounts on the Z800's original master cylinder
- Adjustable distance to the grip
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised finish
- Black hub, blade in one of seven colours
- Standard blade (approx. 138 mm) in every colour; short and long in some
- Rigid construction
- No German ABE documented; sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Both the pivot bore and the seat of the reach adjuster are cut on CNC machines, which is why the EDF021 sits on the Z800's original mounting without slack. The lever is anodised after machining, a treatment that converts the surface into a hard, coloured oxide; the hub is black on every version, the blade coloured to your order. Because the colour is part of the metal's surface, it wears slowly and does not flake. The lever is fixed, a single piece of aluminium from hub to tip, with no joint that could introduce play.
What ABS Leaves to the Hand
ABS steps in when a wheel is about to lock. That makes it a safety net for the moment something goes wrong, not a replacement for technique. The quality of ordinary braking, the kind you do before every bend, is decided long before the system intervenes: in how early you start, how quickly pressure rises and how gently you ease off as the bike turns in. On the Z800 a lever that sits well under the fingers makes those gradations easier. Set the EDF021 so it is reached without the hand opening wide, then practise progressive stops from moderate speed, feeling the fork compress before adding more pressure. If ABS does come in, you will feel it pulse at the lever; keep squeezing and let the system work. Riders who brake with four fingers will find more room on the long blade, which is made in blue, gold, green and orange.
Fitment and Compatibility
The Z800's whole production run, 2013 to 2016, is covered: that is the span Accossato lists for the EDF021, before the Z900 replaced the model. The lever goes on the original front master cylinder. The clutch side has its own Accossato part for the same four years, the ESK828. Both come in the same seven colours with the same black hub, so the pair can match.
Road Approval
The EDF021 has no documented German ABE, so it is sold for track use only.
