White does something specific on an adventure helmet that it does not do on a road one: it keeps the interior temperature down during the slow, hot, low-airflow riding — gravel, ruts, traffic — where an adventure rider actually gets uncomfortable.

Peak and visor — what an adventure helmet is for

The peak and the visor do different jobs and they work together. The peak shades low sun, deflects roost and spray from the rider ahead, and gives the shell its adventure line; the CNS-2 visor seals the front for road speed and takes a Pinlock lens for cold, wet weather.

🔵 The honest consequence: with both fitted, this is louder than a road helmet and less capable than a competition off-road one.

About the white finish

The heat argument is a real one here rather than a theoretical one. Adventure riding involves long periods at speeds too low for airflow to do much: picking a line through gravel, waiting at a border, crawling through a village. In those conditions the shell's own solar absorption becomes the dominant factor, and a white helmet is measurably cooler than a black one. There is a second argument on a helmet like this, which is that adventure bikes are frequently ridden in places where being seen is the whole safety strategy. A white helmet at head height is the single brightest object you can carry. 🔵 The cost is visible dirt, and an adventure helmet gets dirty in ways a road helmet does not — dust, mud spray and insects rather than just road film.

AIM+, four shells, double-D and EQRS

Four outer shell sizes across XS to XXL is the specification that keeps this helmet from feeling like a bucket on smaller heads. A single shell padded down produces a helmet that is visibly oversized; four shells means the volume stays honest and the mass stays centralised.

The shell is six-layer AIM+ composite over a multi-density EPS core, with double-D retention and EQRS.

The CNS-2 visor and the Pinlock lens in the box

Fogging is the adventure rider's real optical problem rather than glare, because the riding involves so much time at low speed — picking a line, waiting, standing on the pegs — where there is no airflow to clear a visor.

Shoei's answer is to supply the Pinlock EVO lens with the helmet rather than sell it separately. 🔵 Order replacements as DKS302 for the CNS-2 visor.

Ventilation — and why we do not quote a vent count

🔵 A small honesty note on a specification you will see quoted confidently elsewhere. The vent count for this helmet is not consistent across sources: MCN and Visordown say four intakes and four exhausts, Moto Magazine says four and six, and Shoei's own European page describes six outlets at the rear and neck.

What is agreed is that the system was revised against the previous generation. We would rather say that than pick a number.

Peak, spoiler and lift at road speed

Lift is the specific problem an adventure helmet has to solve. A peak in clean air at 120 km/h acts as a wing, and the load goes into your neck for as long as you hold your head up. Every design decision at the front and rear of this shell is aimed at that.

🔵 Shoei's stated solutions are a perforated peak and an integrated rear spoiler. We have not seen an independent test confirming the effect, and we are not going to imply one exists.

Four cheek pad thicknesses, removable ear pads, intercom prep

🔵 The four cheek pad thicknesses — 31, 35, 39 and 43 mm — are the tool for almost every fit problem short of a wrong shell size. Presses at the jaw: go thinner. Moves under load: go thicker. It is a 12 mm range, which is a great deal on a helmet.

Everything comes out for washing, and the ear pads are removable to make room for intercom speakers.

What is documented and what is not

🔵 Two things this helmet does not have, and both are worth knowing before you buy. There is no SHARP rating — neither this generation nor the previous one appears in the programme. And as of writing there is no independent road test of the 06 at all.

It reached the market in June 2026. We checked MCN, Visordown, Bennetts, RiDE, ABR, MOTORRAD, the ADAC, 1000PS and Moto Magazine before saying so.

Where it sits in Shoei's range

Against the GT-Air3 — identical price, entirely different helmet. The GT-Air3 has a sun visor, a quieter shell, a five-star SHARP rating and no peak. The Hornet ADV 06 has a peak, a higher shell grade and genuine off-road capability.

The deciding question is not which is better but how much of your riding leaves the tarmac.

When something wears out

An adventure helmet is a repairable object and that matters on a helmet taken a long way from a dealer. Peak, visor, Pinlock lens, all padding and the ear pads are separately available — so a scuffed peak or a scratched visor is a part rather than a new helmet.

🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished.
