DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
Gloss white is the only shiny finish of the three and the least expensive way into the SMART. It is also the version that makes the least secret of what the helmet is — a bright shell reads as equipment, and this helmet is more equipment than most.
Head-up display ready — the COMLINK interface
This is the difference between the SMART and every other GT-Air3. Recesses in the ear area and pre-routed cable channels let the EYELIGHTS head-up display and its intercom module install into the SHOEI COMLINK interface cleanly — no improvised mounts, no cable trapped against the liner.
Paired with a phone running the EYELIGHTS app, it projects speed, navigation, incoming calls and current track onto a freely chosen spot on the sun visor, in Nano OLED at Full HD, readable in direct sun. 🔵 The HUD is sold separately — the helmet is the mount, not the system.
About the gloss white finish
Touring is where a white helmet earns its keep, because touring means unfamiliar roads, unfamiliar drivers and long hours in whatever light the day supplies. A pale shell at head height is the single most useful bright object a rider carries, and it sits above the headlight where an approaching driver's eye actually scans. There is a thermal argument alongside it that matters on a helmet built for long days: white reflects solar load a dark shell converts into interior heat, and on a summer motorway that is a real difference rather than a marginal one. The costs are the familiar ones. White shows road film, insects and rain marks sooner than any other finish here, and gloss shows swirls if you dry-wipe it. Wash it wet and dry it with a clean cloth.
The coated QSV shield — sun visor and screen in one
The sun visor is where the SMART physically differs from a standard GT-Air3. It is a QSV shield with a projection coating — the surface the head-up display writes onto — and it deploys steplessly to cover nearly the whole usable field of view.
That dual role is elegant: the same panel that shades your eyes in bright sun becomes the display screen, so nothing extra sits in your line of sight.
The shell underneath — and whose five stars those are
Underneath, this is a GT-Air3: an AIM shell of fibreglass and organic fibres in three shell sizes (XS–M / L / XL–XXL), a multi-density EPS liner, a micro-ratchet chin strap and EQRS emergency cheek pad release, homologated to ECE 22.06.
🔵 On safety rating, we would rather be precise than flattering: SHARP's five-star result is recorded against the „GT Air3" entry. Shoei states the SMART uses the same shell basis, so the result is relevant — but the SMART was not separately tested, and we are not going to imply that it was.
CNS-1C, Pinlock and the defogger filter
The CNS-1C visor gives a wide, distortion-free field of view and blocks more than 99 % of incoming UV. A Pinlock® EVO anti-fog lens is supplied with the helmet rather than sold as an accessory.
🔵 Replacements are ordered as Pinlock EVO DKS301 — the lens Pinlock lists across Shoei's GT-Air and Neotec range. It is not the DKS302 used on the Hornet ADV or the DKS056 on the Glamster.
Two-stage intake, 80 % more extraction
Airflow was substantially reworked for this generation: Shoei quotes 20 % more intake area and 80 % more outlet area than the previous GT-Air, with a two-stage intake that lets you run it part-open rather than only open or shut.
🔵 One documented weakness worth knowing: hands-on testing found the chin ventilation weaker than the rest of the system in genuine heat. The crown airflow is not the problem; the chin bar is.
How quiet it actually is
Quiet is this helmet's headline quality, and the independent verdicts are unusually consistent about it. MCN rated the GT-Air3 5 out of 5 and described the wind noise as impressively minimal; hands-on testing put it on a par with the X-Fifteen and RF-1400.
🔵 Those tests were of the standard GT-Air3, which the SMART shares its shell with. Earplugs still belong in your pocket on a long fast day — no helmet makes them unnecessary.
Fit, head shape and glasses
The head shape is intermediate oval — the same shape Shoei has used across the GT-Air family and the Neotec, so if one of those fitted you, this will. The interior is fully removable and washable, with cheek and centre pads available in several thicknesses.
🔵 It is also notably good with glasses: reviewers found spectacle arms slide into place rather than having to be forced past the padding.
Around 1700 grams, and the rest of the honest list
Around 1700 g is the figure Shoei quotes; one independent review weighed a size L at 1770 g. Either way this is a substantial helmet, and the electronics provision does not make it lighter.
🔵 The honest list: the HUD and intercom are separate purchases, the chin ventilation is the weak point in real heat, and the SMART costs 50 € more than a standard GT-Air3 before you have bought a display at all.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
The SMART sits at the top of Shoei's sport-touring line and is the only helmet in the range engineered around a head-up display. Below it, the standard GT-Air3 is the same helmet without the projection coating and the HUD preparation, at 599 €.
🔵 Above it, the Neotec 3 is a flip-up with dual P/J homologation for riders who want the chin bar to open — but it is not HUD-ready.
| Model | Type | From |

| GT-Air3 SMART | Full-face (sport-touring, HUD-ready) | from 649 € |

When something wears out
We stock the genuine Shoei parts: CNS-1C visors in clear, tinted and photochromic, Pinlock EVO DKS301 lenses, cheek and centre pads in several thicknesses, chin strap covers and replacement defogger filters.
🔵 Order visors and lenses by designation rather than by helmet name — CNS-1C and DKS301 for this helmet, not the CNS-2 and DKS302 of the Hornet ADV.
